Ooooh!! Lots of unheard goodies on those tapes. While I don't think they'll fetch the prices anticipated on the auction site, they would be fascinating to hear. Pity we probably never will (beyond a few Speed Of Sound era rough mixes that were also on the Trevor Jones tapes). Also, it's too bad that MPL doesn't view this type of material as being worthy of inclusion on Paul's Archive sets.
What's the "MARC BOLAN VOCAL AND GUITAR track overdubs SESSION" all about? Another Geoff Emerick project that just happened to use the same tape?
Unless it’s some sort of secret session like Marc did on ELO’s On The Third Day around the same time. But I doubt it. I want to hear all these tracks!
They're listed with expected prices of around $8-10k. That seems pretty reasonable if these contain unique material not otherwise available. Actually, that seems low in that case. If this stuff is unique, I imagine MPL will buy it. If this is just dubs of stuff somewhere in the vaults, then they won't bother.
If this stuff is unique, I imagine MPL will hit them with a writ...although the tapes do appear to be copies, at least one of which was posted to Geoff Emerick. As such, it doesn't look as if they're stolen goods.
40-50 years old and unlikely to have been stolen. So they're probably beyond statute of limitations and are either considered abandoned property or they legally belong to someone else. Certainly, you can't publicly disseminate the contents. But you can own and play these for yourself.
These tapes just contain rough mixes of released solo songs. Solo material usually fetches prices far lower than Beatles-era material (due to much lower interest), and not having any actual unreleased tracks will lessen interest even further. I think expecting top bids approaching $25k for 35 minutes of rough mixes from Band On The Run (Lot 284, with estimate bid price at £10,000 - £20,000) is definitely pushing it. I can definitely see it going for a few thousand dollars, but not over ten grand.
