This seems like a must have album. I love that they've gone with new mixes, deep cuts, and live tracks. Looking forward to seeing the film and enjoying the soundtrack.
Very, very excited about this.....I saw the track listing earlier and saw "remix" and immediately presumed they would be the kind of remixes where you would need to play it alongside the original to notice any difference...... but nope, that sure is a different version!....and pretty damn good too imo.... Sweet Jesus I miss that man, I can see myself getting emotional watching the doc
Yes, the emotional toll this film will take on many of us will be large, I'm guessing. Hopefully cathartic and grief-freeing. I hope to see it opening night.
The track listing on cd 2 states 'Starman' and 'Changes'. It doesn't state 'remix' or ' spoken audio', so can we presume they will be the normal original studio versions?
An interesting interview about the past, present, and future . . . Inside the David Bowie catalogue and documentary with the icon's music publisher at Warner Chappell
It never ceases to amaze me how these kind of people who call themselves CEO in an artistic industry have so little to say in so many words of corporate yada yada. If this Moot guy plays any kind of decisive role in future Bowie releases it'll be really boring for true Bowie fans I'm afraid. Btw there's an active thread about the film and now also soundtrack here: David Bowie - New Live/Documentary Movie "Moonage Daydream"
Operationally in charge of everything artistic regarding Bowie on behalf of the Estate now, Bill Zysblat has been in that role for DB for many decades.
Question- A-“Infinite possibilities, infinite possibilities…” That was basically as specific as he got I’m just hoping for box set 6 sometime next year, i hope that doesn’t get lost in the shuffle
I saw it at my local independent cinema just yesterday. I'm not a fully committed Bowie fan, but I enjoyed it. Collage effect of words (mostly his), images, live footage and music, rather than a straight ahead documentary. The man could be pretentious when given space to talk about himself, but we feel inclined to forgive him because of his musical legacy.
Yes! Pretentious.. my thoughts exactly… but .. the early tv interviews .. Russell Harty.. “ shoes silly” was fun. Of course his legacy his music - video. .. live performances.
Looks like we're getting a Blu-Ray & DVD release of the film the same week as the 2xCD edition of the soundtrack comes out, and the Blu-Ray is currently available at Amazon US for a pre-order price of $17.99 - 33% off the $26.99 list price, and a buck cheaper than the DVD! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BB8GMT49/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00
Listening to the soundtrack just now and really enjoying it! reawakened my desire to see the movie. Would love the Bowie experts here to break down the track listing… …where the live songs were recorded, etc., etc.
I saw the movie a couple of weeks ago. Music was great naturally but I thought the film itself was poorly done. I could happily have left after the first 20 minutes. I didn’t but kind of wished I had. I won’t be getting the soundtrack as I’m very happy with the great albums the guy left us with.
Been listening to the soundtrack this weekend and it is excellent. The live stuff is brilliant and the version of "Cracked Actor" just phenomenal and I really like the new mixes of "DJ", "Ashes..." and above all "Sound and Vision" which is fantastic to hear. The whole thing is like an alternative best of. Even though I've seen the film I put in the CDs without looking at the track-listing and got chills when the familiar tracks kicked in. Particularly like the little excerpts of tracks spread throughout the compilation (the recurring bits of "Word on a Wing" and "Ian Fish"). Imaginative and creative - as Bowie would have wanted.
It’s hard for me to answer your question over 2 months after seeing the film. My impressions were that there was no logical flow to the film. It was like a montage and there appeared to be quite a bit of repetition. Each to his own though. If you enjoyed it - great.
