'Punches...' is my favorite. St. Dominic’s Preview might be his greatest tune.

hmm, hard to separate "Listen to the Lion" from its performance. Unsure its the kind of 'song' that, say, Adele or Rod Stewart (or anyone) is going to cover. Might be his greatest moment of musical expression if that makes sense. And there more of those, like the 18 minute 'Caledona Soul' outtake, which again isn't so much a song as Van tuning into his muse with crystaline precision.

I think "Mighty Like A Rose" (even unfinished and half mumbled), "My Lonely Sad Eyes", "Into the Mystic", "St. Dominics' Preview" are all contenders. I also think about that absolutely stunning 'Fridays' Child' on the Pacific High Studios recording, another example of Van taking one of his songs into a new realm. It's like a new song is revealed beneath the old. "Gloria" too, just because that's what it's all about, isn't it? Would't it be great if one of those 30 minute versions from the Them gigs at the Maritime Hotel materialized? Probably the ulimate version of Gloria.

In other words, I can't really select one....

It's grey, foggy, autumnal outside, and it's San Francisco, and it's Sunday. It has to be "Into the Mystic" right now, doesn't it?

  9. There are so many, but right now I’m listening to T.B. Sheets and it moves me a lot, so that’s my current favorite.

Does Van have any bad or even mediocre songs? Some may be sort of forgettable but out of the 75 or so that I've heard, each and every one is a winner.

Impossible to pick from the ones I have heard. I'm tentatively going to go with "And The Healing Has Begun", but I can name fifteen songs I wouldn't want to live without. In fact, I think I'm going to make a playlist of those and blast it while I clean up around the house tonight! Thanks!

EDIT: Jeez, somehow I forgot about "Glad Tidings". Urgh, there's a tough choice. "Healing" might have just been dethroned...

Sticking with what original poster asked for, i.e. one song:

I think my favorite is Carrying A Torch.
