This really shows the way for KISS whenever Gene or Paul may eventually make their departure. Maybe Garth Brooks could take over for Paul?

Wow. Offhand to me, it's as big news as Joe Walsh joining The Eagles way back when...although not really I suppose, just the proximity of time makes it seem so. This actually makes me much more interested in seeing one of the Classic shows.
Which by the way, seem like GREAT packaging-take bands that don't sell very big venues (Eagles excepted) and stick them together into a "happening" and sell a ton of tickets (at least, I assume the events are selling well???)

Yeah! I've posted elsewhere about Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks making a surprise appearance at the Grand Ole Opry. Vince actually followed them to close the show-ugh! Talk about a tough act to follow!-but he pulled it off very smoothly.

    That's what I was hoping-
In which Bernie was offered to rejoin.

As an Official Full Fledged Eagle, not just work-for-hire, not as just an extra guitar.
    Perhaps he declined...?

Hey how about that Don Felder guy that wrote "Heavy Metal", didn't he make some guest appearances with The Eagles?

Mark Knopfler tried to get Gill to join the Dire Straits touring band for the On Every Street Tour. 26 years and a music industry sea-change later, I guess he's less concerned about the solo career implications.

If it has strings on it, Vince Gill can play the hell out of it.

I'd like to hear him sing "Take It To The Limit".

Sounds good to me. Gill is a helluva musician.

    Why not?

  17. He's much better than a "good guitarist".

I'm sure he'll be given some leeway to play guitar. I'm actually interested to hear this, and I don't even like The Eagles.

Here's a clip of Vince Gill playing Duane Allman's Les Paul Gold Top, supposedly the one he played on the "Layla" album. He sounds more like Dickey Betts to me.

Probably more like after the solo record tanked.

He's had a huge solo career now for a quarter of a century. When Knopfler tried to get him, he was on the cusp of the major breakthrough for that solo career...so it made sense then for Gill to say no.

Now? Vince has made a ton of money, this is something that could be fun, different AND make himself some money. Why not? Frankly, he will be the most talented member of the Eagles on the day he joins.

The offer from Mark Knopfler....as a touring member or a permanent member of Dire Straits? I wonder if Dire Straits would've continued on if Vince joined that band. He still guested on Mark's solo albums (not to mention making an album with Paul Franklin, a member of the last touring Dire Straits band).

After winning 20+ Grammy Awards as a solo performer, I think Vince Gill made the right choice.

Vince is an undeniable talent, but contrary to the consensus here, this news makes me cringe a little. It does prove once and for all that the Eagles invented what is basically post-modern Country music.

No disrespect to Gill he has chops, but this feels like a pure marketing strategy, and as such it is a smart move. Since the Eagles are basically just a brand now, it gives them more crossover appeal. They can keep this money machine cranking out cash.

No disrespect to Vince Gill from me either. Looking at the original 6 Eagles albums, I think Joe Walsh sang 2 songs and Schmit sang only one.
Eagles without Frey, Leadon, Meisner, Felder? It's just Henley and a tribute band now.
