No track list yet. Super deluxe 5-Disc set features a new stereo mix remastered from the original 3-track and 2-track sources, and the original stereo mix on CD 1. Discs 2-4 offer a trove of unheard outtakes from five recording sessions and place listeners in the studio as the musicians work through their arrangements. The Blu-Ray disc includes hi-resolution audio of the new mix as well as a Dolby Atmos mix. Craft has a page reserved for it, but its currently blank: A Charlie Brown Christmas: Deluxe Edition
Unreleased jams! That could be fun. I heard an amazing interview on CBC with the drummer just before he died. It’s online at CBC.ca somwhere. Just search his name. I forget it now.
I wonder if all of this extra outtake material was discovered in the Lee Mendelssohn vaults, where they also discovered the original masters for the Great Pumpkin soundtrack.
I had not heard about this. Did a quick search and found this: It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: Original Soundtrack Recording
Holy ****. I never imagined a release like this would even be possible. Hopefully, they'll be a take of Vince belching his way through 'Christmas Time Is Here.'
Did anyone get the UHQCD version that was released a couple of years ago? What's it like? (I've searched, but can't find anything about it on the SHF.)
The single-CD version of the deluxe set will include 13 unreleased tunes. Still waiting on track list. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B9BX5C4K/?tag=imwan-20 This deluxe CD release of A Charlie Brown Christmas features a brand-new Stereo Mix of the classic album remastered from the original three-track and two-track sources, as well as thirteen unreleased outtakes, highlights taken from five sessions of recording material. Amazing in their own right these unheard versions give insight into how this iconic score took shape. The package also features new liner notes from Peanuts historian, Derrick Bang.
How can you get a Dolby Atmos mix from “3-track and 2-track sources”? Even if you used software extraction there’s only what, three instruments and a choir?
It’s certainly possible! What makes an expanded A Charlie Brown Christmas set intriguing is all the tracks that didn’t make it onto the soundtrack, some of which have made it out piecemeal over the years on various sets. If they’ve found the remaining tapes this could be a special release. I’ve always wanted an official release of Guaraldi’s renditions of Jingle Bells as heard in the special so if those show up here I will be over the moon!
If well done, it could be an enjoyable set. I truly wonder whether the Atmos mix will improve on the mixes from the Monster Music set from 2005. The set contained 3 different 5.1 mixes. I wonder how many people are ready to spend $100 on such a set. Of course, I'll be buying one.
