VMP never does downloads do they? They're not Download me Please, ha. Plus it's on youtube, applemusic, streaming anywhere and everywhere now.
Memphis Record Pressing (MRP) Could be nice n sizzly with occasional pops/ticks along with scraping non-fill bonus sounds.
The December Classics, I'm guessing is Curtis Mayfield's Curtis. Any guesses for October or November Classics?
But only the US editions. I got my order from amazon.de today and alas, Back to Black issue, but no SH/KG in the deadwax, just standard GZ runouts. So buyers in the EU beware! Get ‘m from amazon in the us.
Man, I'd jump on more JLH titles from Craft! the Country Blues cut by Kevin Gray is great, even though MRP isn't my favorite pressing plant, my copy was no problem.
So what's the deal with VMP exclusives selling on eBay and Discogs? I just got a copy of the Jorge Ben LP for significantly less than it would've cost me on VMP. And the seller had quite a few copies for sale if I remember correctly. Is it VMP selling them or is someone buying them from VMP in bulk to resell? Apologies if this has been discussed already; I tried searching for it on this thread with no luck. I was a member briefly a few years ago but when I went to re-join I found that it was a lot more expensive and in no way worth it anymore.
Definitely the latter: resellers buying in bulk in hopes a limited pressing gets ridiculously valuable.
It's not gonna be Curtis. For one, they said so on twitter, but for two, it was just reissued last year by Rhino. I think it'll be Diana Ross' S/T debut album since they have ties with Motown having done the Women of Motown boxset recently — plus the VMP December Essentials is gone be Billie Holiday (probably Lady Sings the Blues) and Diana Ross played Billie in the film
I've had no issues with Craft's reissues pressed at MRP so far, so I'm gonna bite on these JLHooker albums. If they come out with the standard black version for cheaper, you can always cancel your VMP order and get those if you want. These are two great looking reissues though, instant buy for both for me.
really want to pull the trigger on these JLH releases before i cancel... but also having a hard time validating spending $64 on 2 LPs no matter how AAA..... the prices have become silly.
There seems to be one dealer with an inside track to large quantities of VMP releases, possibly they have signed up for a bunch of memberships but more likely they have a contact inside the factory. VMP are owned by a venture capital group so they are obviously tightening the screws to extract maximum short term profit, probably to the point of dooming the company.
Does anyone know for sure if the John Lee Hooker VMP Travelin release is also going going to be released by Craft or is this a VMP exclusive?
This is going to be a pretty out there choice, but I think the October Classic is going to be Peter Brotzmann's Machine Gun as the other great non-reissued jazz LPs from that year Roland Kirk's Inflated Tear, Don Cherry's Eternal Rhythm and Jaki Byard's Jaki Byard Experience came out on major labels. I like the album, but that's going to alienate a lot of people.
Is there a list anywhere of records that are truly exclusive to VMP, i.e. no other original issue or reissue available? Obvs I'm not talking about color variants.
they said on Twitter it’s not Machine Gun, Inflated Tear was out too. I think Gabor Szabo’s Bacchanal is the front runner. Could possibly be Jazz Composers Orchestra too, but that might be too free jazzy for VMP EDIT: Dreams, not Bacchanal.
Newest hints from VMP Twitter in bold. Classics: Oct: Jazz, 1968, Came out on a label he co-founded, Budapest Nov: Jazz, 1957, 1 of 2 albums he made for this label, Missouri Dec: Soul, 1970, debut album, Chicago
Gabor Szabo sounds interesting I had never heard of him before but looking him up on Youtube and the albums you said looks like some late 60's psychedelic jazz. Also I hope it is Gabor Szabo-Dreams just for the cover I might switch out Outkast for this
