    Well now I'm confused.

Still, joke items "for sale" becoming a real thing isn't unprecendented, just ask ThinkGeek.

Highly doubt any Ed Wood would get the 4K treatment, though.

Pretty good proof. Anyone still think this is an April Fool's Day joke? I'm not sure I will buy it, but it looks really interesting. Only two movies are Blu-ray, I guess.

    I would buy it.

A dramatic reading of Graverobbers from Outer Space by James Woods?
Discussing the Clayton the Cop Trilogy?
A feature on Ed's writing called Vodka Gimlet?

Fellers, it's a joke. Not saying I wouldn't buy it if it wasn't a joke though. There;s potential here...

I'll be interested in finding out down the road. If it's not a joke, precisely what Criterion wants, I guess.

That does seem over the top.

Were you involved in the transfers for the Arrow DVD box set from about 15 years ago? I have that and I love it.

When you search either the Criterion site, or the Blu-ray.com site, it doesn't exist.
Also, Criterion has yet to do anything in 4k yet ( Hi Fi Digest took it too far ).

Yeah. I tried a Criterion search and came up empty, as well. I'm not well-versed in 4K, but (as I noted above) that seemed a bit much on its face.

But it still was a good "fool", though.

Darn. I thought it was for real. :(
I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

I believe that was an attempt to remind anyone reading that it is, in fact, a joke. :)

My guess is that "Seven Samurai" will be the first 4K Criterion, if they ever go that route.

Makes no difference to me, as I didn't upgrade to 4k, and now I stream rather than buy more discs to sit and collect dust.

A sick joke considering Plan Nine is one of my favorite movies.

    It's a classic! Parody? German expressionism? Absurdist drama? Neo-surrealistic . . . existentialist . . . whatever . . .

I need to dust off my copy and give it another look-see.

  17. Gotta admit: if this were real, I’d bite. Heck, I might be pulling the trigger on a Hershel Gordon Lewis box set, and I think his movies generally blew harder than Ed’s.

As far as I know, those were done from the same 1" analog tapes we worked on in the 1980s.

This sounds like the same deluded mentality Susan Hart retains about her film properties. The only real market for them is through Shout Factory, as MST3K dvds, but she will not license them for any amount of money.

I love Russ Meyer, and I would love for his films to be 4K scanned and restored.

    Ed Wood, not so much.

They had me until they mentioned a 4k disc, which I know Criterion doesn't do at the moment since they make decent scratch selling DVDs to libraries.

I'd argue that the Tim Burton film, ED WOOD, is far more enjoyable than sitting through any of Ed Wood's movies, which I do own. But the original films contain plenty of dead stretches when the movies are just boring and not insane enough.
