In what has to be one of the greatest moments in country music, Johnny Cash performed at the San Quentin penitentiary. The year was 1969 and I am very sorry to say I wasn’t there. The great never equaled, and timeless Mr. Cash performs a song titled Wanted Man. The song is credited to Bob Dylan. Anyone know if Dylan ever recorded this song?

As much as I like Johnny Cash...

...I'm still damn grateful I wasn't present at San Quentin in 1969...:D

Dylan made a stab at recording the song with Johnny Cash and his band at Columbia Studios in Nashville on 2/18/69. But it wasn't even a complete run-through, and broke down because of lyric mistakes.

    No collectors have a copy.

But it is from the same session as the "Girl of the North Country" that's on "Nashville Skyline," and from the same acetate that has been heavily bootlegged over the years, with 14 of the performances on it.

I'll have to see if I can find that some how.

I'll be happy to clone you (and anyone else here who wants one) my CDR of what's on the acetate. There are two 7.5 ips half track open reel generations in between, but that's a lot closer than the bootlegs.

I guess not being in San Quentin in 1969 might be a good thing. :D
