30 Seconds Over Tokyo They Were Expendable Sands of Iwo Jima Buck Privates Love the old black & white movies
A short story about ' The Sand Pebbles '... In this movie Steve McQueen is newly arrived on the ship. Some of his fellow sailors are telling him the way it is and one asks him how many eggs he likes for breakfast. McQueen says he enjoys a dozen. I was in a bar trivia contest once and the opposing team was asked this question : " What movie featured a character boasting he could eat 50 eggs ? " They said Steve McQueen in ' The Sand Pebbles '.
A good one that I didn't see mentioned is A City Of Life And Death (2009). City of Life and Death (2009) - IMDb It's a very well made Chinese movie about the invasion of Nanjing on December 9th 1937.
Sole Survivor is a superb film that has always stayed with me since seeing it in the Seventies, although the story revolves around the crew of a crashed B:25 bomber rather than being directly about the Second World War
these not mentioned: Troy (2004) The Patriot (2000) The Last of the Mohicans (1992) I think Saving Private Ryan is the best WWII movie..... maybe even best any war movie. Enemy at the Gates is also pretty good, but not as good as above imho... Full Metal Jacket Platoon Apocalypse Now Black Hawk Down
Dr Zhivago The Hill Sahara Das Boot The Great Escape Paths of Glory The Best Years of our Life Red Badge of Courage Apocalypse Now Saving Private Ryan The Longest Day They Were Expendable Mrs. Miniver Letters from Iwo Jima From Here to Eternity Yankee Doodle Dandy and many more
Me too. I think it was a made for tv flick. I watched it in the 70's and it always stuck with me, those ghosts hanging around the crashed bomber, just waiting for their bodies to be found. I bought a grainy dvd copy of it in the late 90's, early 2000's. I had forgotten William Shatner was in it.
I think I've enjoyed every war movie I've ever seen throughout the 70's-90's except Pearl Harbor (2001). I think i fell asleep watching that.
My brother loved that film... I've never viewed it, but I did buy a copy of it at a thrift store, which is on the shelf to be viewed someday.
John Banner as a cynical German home guard soldier. I am tempted to s6art quoting lines but it will be like eating potato chips...you can’t stop with one.
Often overlooked, but Born On The Fourth Of July is a terrific (antiwar)movie. The war scenes in Vietnam are powerful and harrowing.
I saw bridge at remagen recently The destroying of the coty looked real so i looked it up. They did destroy that town Castle keep is a little to quirkey they are both 1969 films i think
i'm sure my favorites have all been mentioned The Great Escape The Guns Of Navarone Bridge On The River Kwai The Hill Sergeant York
The Bridge at Remagen has some great scenes. The summary execution of Robert Vaughn's character was superb -his fumbling for his cigarette box right before he's shot was a nice touch.
