"Something So Strong" left us last time, so we're down to our final pair.

    Pick the ONE weakest link!

Discussion: what would your preferred final pair - and winner - have been?

Next up: @LandHorses with the Replacements' "Tim".

    DISMISSED TRACKS:
    -Something So Strong
    -Mean to Me
    -Hole in the River
    -Now We're Getting Somewhere
-Love You 'Til the Day I Die
    -I Walk Away
    -Tombstone
    -Can't Carry On
    -That's What I Call Love

To me the best 2 tracks are Hole In The River and World Where You Live.

    World wins. For my money.

Don't Dream It's Over is gorgeous, but it's World Where You Live for the win.

I would've liked Now We're Getting Somewhere to be in the final two.

Has to be WWYL. I am well sick of DDIO but there is a reason why Neil has played it at almost every concert in the last 35 years.

I actually agree in the top 2!

No surprise here! Though I’m sure some are sick of it, Don’t Dream taps into something way behind skillful songwriting.

This would have been my final pairing, with WWYL for the win.

    It's a tight vote!

Well, not really, but I gotta pimp the thread! :D

My vote is for World Where You Leave as the weakest link. Say what you want about Don't Dream It's Over and it being overplayed and such, it is for a reason. I think it's still a gorgeous song, even after countless plays.

My final pairing probably would've been Hole In The River against Don't Dream It's Over, with Don't Dream It's Over also winning this one.

  9. I think this would be my own final pair, with "Now We're Getting Somewhere" close behind. If one has to go it would be "Don't Dream It's Over", but that's just because I heard it a lot more often.

Both great songs, but DDIO is such a classic, absolutely perfect song, with such a simple but memorable chorus that is the winner. Always a great sing along with the band when performed live.
Final pairing is good..but I could stick "Hole in the River" and "Can't Carry On" as finalist.

Voted for "World Where You Live"; I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did but I guess some people really like it...

DQ: "Mean to Me" over "Don't Dream It's Over". DDIO is such an iconic song but MtM is so effective as the exposition of the album that it wins out for me. I'm assuming the fan on the cover is a symbolic nod to the fan mentioned in MtM who (inadvertently?) helped inspire the writing of the modern Roman/Greek tragedy that is their debut album. Call me crazy but the depiction of what I can only assume is Mount Vesuvius erupting in the inner sleeve only helps solidify that message IMO. It's a brilliant album no matter how you look at it...

If I never have to hear DDIO again it’ll be too soon.
Neil has written many songs which are better. Commercial does not always = good.

Discussion: "Mean to Me" and "I Walk Away", with a win for "Walk".

I don't care that it's an Enz "cover"! :shh:

I think we got it right. These are my final two from an album I played a lot in 1987. That said, all four of the U.S. singles (the others were "Something So Strong" and "Now We're Getting Somewhere") are terrific.

I voted off "World Where You Live," as great as it is, because "Don't Dream It's Over" is, in my book, one of the 10 greatest hit songs of the 1980s.

To the surprise of no one, "Don't Dream It's Over" becomes our strongest link!

    Thanks to all who played.

Up next: @LandHorses with the Replacements' "Tim"!

Not a bad final pairing--I'd probably go with "Mean To Me" as the runner-up to "Don't Dream It's Over," but the second spot is close.

    My thoughts exactly!

    Don’t Dream It’s Over

the former is an emotionally powerful but tuneful piece. Don’t Dream It’s Over because the melody is amazing.
