Voting for "Cool, Cool Water" again.

My final pairing would have "This Whole World" winning over probably "Our Sweet Love", but it would have hard competition for the second spot with both "Forever" and "Cool, Cool Water" vying for attention.

I would argue that "This Whole World" is much more complex than "Cool, Cool Water" (which, besides it's advanced production, is a very simple song at it's core), it's as complex as three minute Pop songs get (actually it's not even two mintutes, how did they cram this much melody and harmony into such a short space), especially in it's composition 8'but the arrangement is also something extra). Try picking out the chords real quick for example. :help:

    This Whole World to go.

I love Cool, Cool Water the most on it.

Folks, it's likely that I will not be online when the poll closes to announce the result; however, barring a miracle, I think it's clear what the winning song will be.

Also, when I return I'll announce the results of the final round mini-poll, so if you have not already done so please submit your votes for final pairing and final winner.

The two best on the album. The two songs you would have preferred to see face off in the final round. And which of the two you would have chosen to win the poll.

This is easy, voted off Water.
This Whole World has been in my top 5 BB songs as long as I can remember.
Thought the final would have been TWW and Forever.

    Just some more rambling....
I see 'All I Wanna Do' is an obvious favorite by the folks here, and it's truly an audio aphrodisiac.
Wondering if people are more blown away because of the amazing audio production,
or is it just a real wonderfully written song?
My mind leans towards the former.....
Also, for a highly rated song, rarely was it ever performed live.
The same could be said about 'This Whole World'.....
Without the 'wizardry' of it's production, would 'AIWD' still be held in such high regard?

One thing is certain, the great audio engineer, Steve Desper, deserves some great love and attention for recording 'Sunflower'.

Well, it's both, but the sound of it is amazing, and, of course, that's how recorded music works.

Right up to the second last round it was anybody's guess what song would win. In the final round, however, most of those who had voted out "Forever" in the previous round switched their allegiance to "Cool, Cool Water", leaving "This Whole World" as the comfortable final winner of the poll, 30 votes to 57.

    Results of the mini-poll:

15 people declared their preferences for winner and runner-up.

    Votes for best song:

    1. This Whole World (8 votes)
    2. All I Wanna Do (3 votes)
    3. Forever (2 votes)

Votes for placement in top two:

    1. This Whole World (11 votes)
    2. All I Wanna Do (7 votes)
    3. Forever (5 votes)
I think "This Whole World"'s credentials are assured. :)

    Thanks for participating, everyone!

    Great idea!
    But, SDT for the win?
If that happens, I'll do some demonstrating of my own hehe!

I thought about doing Surf's Up, but I think it would be less interesting. A number of songs are certain candidates for early elimination, and I am almost certain which song would win.

    We'll see. Maybe.

There was supposed to be a PJ Harvey poll continuing after mine finished, but I don't know whether the person doing it is intending to go ahead. Round 1 closed on Wednesday and I don't see any round 2.

Surf’s Up would easily come down to 2 songs...title track and ‘Til I Die

    Some great tracks on 'SU'.
Surf's Up, Til' I Die, Feel Flows, Long Promised Road, Disney Girls and some people love 'A Day In The Life Of A Tree'.....
That would be my first 'flick' hehehe.....
The other tunes aren't too 'shabby' either.

First? You actually prefer the song-that-dares-not-speak-its name?

As I said, there is supposed to be another one about to resume, so any Surf's Up poll will have to wait for that one to complete.

I agree. There is no beating the title track, but it could be interesting along the way to the final. It is an album that is fairly easy to predict the top 5 songs.

Amusingly, a few minutes ago this song came up on a radio podcast that I was listening to:

Some pretty obvious "borrowings" from that song for "Cool, Cool Water", aren't there? but I much prefer the Beach Boys' song.

Actually I'd go with the Carl songs as my favorite ones, "Feel Flows" and "Long Promised Road" are the highlights. Actually there only 1song which I know would lose the first round, but you never know !

that's probably the one the BBs took their original inspiration from. It's just that Cash's version was the one that popped up on the radio.

I'm wondering if I should ask for this thread to be closed, otherwise we'll spend another few pages discussing Surf's Up and leave nothing to discuss for a future Surf's Up weakest link poll. :D
