I considered posting this in the "When did humans reach their peak?" thread. Or "Is a Vintage toaster better than a Modern one?".

But this event deserves its own thread! Alfred Matthew Yankovic turns 60 today!

What are you favorite Weird Al parodies, originals, style pastiches, polka medleys, albums, memories, concerts, etc.?

I'm listening to Al at lunch today. Lovin' the "Hot Rocks Polka". "Buy Me A Condo" might be my favorite original. Or maybe "One More Minute" - have to use the self-service pumps!

"Amish Paradise" is my most-played parody, but so many great ones.

So many great, great songs - what an important American icon.
A few (of many) favorites include:

    Nature Trail to Hell
    Bob
    Dare to be Stupid
My Baby's in Love with Eddie Vedder
    Genius in France

The man's catalog is nearly inexhaustible. Happy Birthday Al.

"Pancreas" is one of my favorites. I guess it was based off the 30 minutes released on the "Good Vibrations" box set. This one is for die-hard Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fans.

Weird Al rules! He's kept me entertained from my very young childhood years, all the way up to now and beyond. I hope his 60th birthday treats him well! :righton:

It's great that his career has lasted way longer than most of the big groups he parodies!

Some great parodies, and his original work is even better. Long live Al!

This is my favorite Weird Al song of all time :righton: I thank Dr. Demento for this particular gem.

My second favorite is One More Minute...

His latest album, Mandatory Fun, might be his best IMO.

It's a pleasant astonishment that Weird Al has remained so successful for so long. When I first heard him in '84 (the local rock station played his parodies so often that it was like the roll of the dice if you were going to get the original or the Al version), I thought he was the next Mr. Jaws and he'd be forgotten in two years. Instead, he's still enjoying a lifelong career in a niche where he has no only no peer, but virtually no competition. Happy Birthday, Weird Al, you're one of a kind.

Oh, and why doncha team up with Alice Cooper sometime? You guys have a lot in common.

Even though my parents became familiar with his stuff because me and my brothers wore out the tapes when we were kids, they have their own favorites. And "Buy Me A Condo" is one of my mom's favorites, while "Amish Paradise" is my dad's favorite.

Maybe it's due to my age or the direction pop music took, which he then had to copy, but I look back more fondly on his albums up through Running With Scissors. But all the subsequent albums are still good as well.

My understanding is the first one he released was "My Bologna". Before "Another One Bites the Dust" even came out.

He's one of the first artists that I got into when I was a kid. I guess the variety of genres that he parodied rubbed off on me eventually over the years, so I must thank him for that.

This would've be not long after Brian Wilson's Smile release.
