Weird Al performs my favorite cover of George Harrison's What is Life. It is strange to hear him do a straight cover - but he does so with exuberance and musicality.

Happy 60th to Al! Funny name and funny guy to boot. I do enjoy his material once in a while. I liked the What is Life cover. Bravo!

Meeting Al for a live on-the-air interview at WCSX in Detroit is a career highlight. If I knew how to post photos, I would post the one of him and I. Even got the patent Weird Al look. Such a quiet, humble, unassuming human being. One of the greats. I wish you many more!

What's the saying? "He who is tired of Weird Al is tired of life."

    Well, I'm not.

    Happy birthday, Mr. Yankovic!

Glad to see this thread here. He's been such a huge, huge part of my life given how into music and comedy I've been throughout my life. Hard to believe he's 60, harder to believe he looks like THAT at 60. He and Tony Hawk must sleep in the same tupperware.

Here's to many, many more years of laughter and incredible musicianship.

This has to be my favorite Weird Al bit. So great how they recreated this scene!

Late to the party, but I've stuck on Mandatory Fun, which Al signed for me a few years ago; guest appearance from his retro Funko Pop figure. :)

If I got a present for Al's birthday, it would be a collab album with Ben Folds...maybe with Al contributing a parody or two of Folds songs.

When my rock station was giving away ticket to the Stones' Steel Wheels tour, I edited his "Hot Rocks Polka" into teeny, 16-second pieces and used them to solicit contest callers. Later that year I met him at a radio convention and told him about it. Jolly chat.

This is my favorite - hysterically funny and brilliant. Instead of trying to write like Dylan, Weird Al writes the entire song in palindromes and comes closer to sounding like Dylan than any of Dylan’s imitators.

Al was a staple of my childhood. I had every album on cassette and played the heck out of them. I even lip synced the song Spam in a school talent show haha..

I remember one time in high school, we had this senior event and they did some karaoke and these two guys decided to do “American Pie” but use Weird Al’s lyrics from “The Saga Begins”. The problem then was that Weird Al’s song is a lot shorter than the original.

Speaking of Weird Al, his song "The Night Santa Went Crazy" shares the same chords as Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's "I Believe in Father Christmas".

In terms of his parodies, I love this one:

Whenever anyone talks of bands with any sort of longevity (ABB, Rush, ZZ Top, etc), I think Weird Al's band should be recognized, too. 36 years, I think. And they seem ridiculously proficient at all music genres. It certainly seems like Al has parodied every style by now.
