Hello and welcome, I'm glad to see you here, thanks for joining. We have been here since way back in 2002, always commercial free with over 80,000 dues paying members (just kidding, it's free).

This is primarily an Audiophile Music Forum, which means we like to talk about the sound quality of our favorite music and how we can find the best sounding version of what we love to listen to.

Lurkers, what are you waiting for? Register and participate!

When you register, please fill out your profile as completely as you can so we can get to know you. We figure if you fill your profile out, you are serious about participating here with us and want to stick around for a while. When it asks you for "location" don't put "here, there and everywhere" or "USA" or "Earth" or "Mordor". Put your hometown, please. If you are going to discuss music sound quality, etc. please fill out your gear profile as well so we can get a faint idea of where you're coming from, much appreciated.

It would be nice if you could put your real name (first is fine) in your signature line.

Post often, but always respect other Forum members opinions even if they clash with your own. Try and win them over to your side if you wish, but in a friendly way!

Don't be afraid to ask questions about music or equipment. No question is too dumb; it's how we learn. I think you will find our members are bright, passionate, articulate and intense about what they love (as they should be).

Our Moderation team -- Origin of the GORTS:

Most of you have seen the old Sci-Fi movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still", right? View attachment 361816

Remember Gort? He's the big metal guy that protects our space man Klaatu from harm. But Gort also has power over Klaatu, to keep him and his fellow space folk living in a peaceful and non-warlike society....

Well, here at my Forum, I want you to feel comfortable in posting about what is important to YOU without fear of being slammed. I have given power to my moderators whom I have nicknamed the GORTS and they watch over the various Forums day and night. I've given them power here to do what they think should be done and they will do whatever is needed. I trust their judgment and I'm very grateful for their help and support.

    Our famous Music Forum:

Our MUSIC FORUM is the place to talk about music of any kind, jazz, country, classical, folk, world, oldies, rock, R&B, soul, pop, rap, etc., also the various types of music software (Compact Discs, Vinyl LP's, Edison Cylinders, SACD's, DVD-A's, Shellac 78's, 45's, Open reel, wire recordings etc.)

This vast mix of music and software in one place is intentional; this is how I want it, without segregation of musical type, style, or software.

    Our other Forums:

Audio playback gear has a separate AUDIO HARDWARE Forum, as does VISUAL ARTS (movies, TV, architecture, paintings, photography, etc.) There is an OFF-TOPIC section as well as the CLASSIFIED section where Forum members can buy, sell or trade. No CD-R or bootleg trading, please.

Use our search engines to find topics that we might have covered before; there is a wealth of information here at your fingertips.

Please do not thread-crap at our Forums. In other words, don't find a "Why I Love The Beatles" thread and post that you "hate the Beatles!" just to stir up trouble. This is thread crapping and will be erased. You ARE allowed to dislike the Beatles or any other band or artist, it's a free Forum. You have to start a new thread instead (if you must). Please try and resist starting threads that pit songs against each other or albums or artists... If you want to talk about a song, an album, an artist, start a thread or find an older one.

Please, no political or religious discussions here. We tried that for a while and it did nothing but turn Forum Friends against each other in no time. As Linus in Peanuts once said: "There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: religion, politics and the Great Pumpkin."

When you have an extra minute, please read the revised FORUM RULES here:

They are not hard to follow and are necessary for everyone's benefit. If you have a thorough knowledge of procedures it will make things easier.

So, new Forum Friends: Enjoy your stay here, post long and come back often. I want you to have fun.

And lurkers, don't hesitate to post. No reason to be shy; most of us don't bite.. :)

If you feel that you need to contact a Gort (moderator) for any reason, push the "CONTACT US" button at the bottom of each page. If you need to "report a post", use the "Report this post to a Gort" button at the left of each post”. Please note that the "Report this post to a Gort" notification is always confidential.

Tell your friends about us and have fun here!

    Sincerely yours,

    Steve Hoffman (your host)

Re: no CD-R trading in the Classifieds - unfortunately some companies/labels like for instance Concord are reissuing some of their back catalogue (on Original Jazz Classics for example) on legit CD-Rs; does the "no CD-R trading" rule include those?

Hans, that's different where the CD-R issue/reissues are label legitimate products.

I know, but the rule doesn't make that difference, it says "no CD-R trading", period. Not that I intend to trade any CD-Rs, on the contrary, but I asked because there might be some confusion.

Legitimately purchased from the record company CD-R is acceptable but home made CD-R's are not. :)

Personally I think you should do ads, tasteful ones from Linn, Naim, SONOS etc
This would befit all in my opinion.
Cheers and thanks for the great memories from this site, I first joined about 10 years+ ago but forgot my login!

The reason we don't do ads is because the reality is that a company will get upset over, or demand censorship of any negative thing said about their product. They may also want an indorsement as a return on their investment. That's also not fair for those who do not pay for ads. That's the cold, hard reality of allowing ads. On top of that, they take up valuable real estate, make it annoying to browse the forum because of them, invite malware, and a site owner may require a membership payment to browse the forum ad-free.

    Ads are a bad solution.

I understand now, didn't see the negative side (apart from the ads).

What a place! Found the forum looking for commentary on Paul Westerberg's new music and found one true fan! Also, before I'd even registered, while researching the Beatles Shea Stadium gig, Google remembered you lot and pointed me to the actual contract uploaded by a wonderful forum member. I will go back now and thank them both. Not to mention how much fun it is to find Tom Riddle, and North Wales represented on this page! I feel like I'm right at home!

There is a button at the top right-hand corner of each individual forum. It says "Start New Thread". You may have to have a certain number of posts to be able to start new threads. I don't know. You can learn most or all of what you need to know in the Forum FAQ section. No one else reads it. :D
