Happy New Year, everyone! Double 20 now. Hope it's gonna be a good year.
Happy New Year to all!
Lurked here for 5 years before becoming a regular contributor about 5 years ago. That's a full decade in this forum under my belt and I'm happy to say I think it's one of the very best forums out there.
Keep it going, folks, and a big thank you to our gracious host and the team of Gorts.
Happy New Year everyone!!!!
Big thanks and best wishes to Steve, the Gorts and the members for 2020. Great forum. Such a great knowledge resource - Long May it continue.
Thank you as well for providing. and maintaining a site which is packed with
knowledge, stories and guidance. I have learned a considerable amount
since joining, then posting later. SHF, I am glad to say, belies the old
saying, 'the older you get, the less you know'.
Same here as above to all and a Happy New Years to Steve all the Hoffmanites.
”This is primarily an Audiophile Music Forum, which means we like to talk about the sound quality of our favorite music and how we can find the best sounding version of what we love to listen to.”
I wonder how many on here have & play Edison Cylinders? They probably sound better than Dave Dexter Jr's Beatles albums (lol).
Long time lurker, too, but took the plunge into this treasure filled, honey hole.
Been a member-lurker for quite awhile, hoping to participate and actually add some value now. I really appreciate all the useful and interesting information I've picked up here over the years -- this is a special place on the web.
So I have read the "updated posting rules", which as far as I can tell are unchanged since last time I read them about a year ago. They seem reasonable, though a couple of them are a little cryptic and I'm not quite sure what they are saying, but I don't think they will affect me.
So to my question: when are you going to enforce the rule that says to post your actual location, as opposed to things like "Somewhere on Earth" or "Middle Earth" or "Between two worlds"? These are not particularly funny. More importantly, knowing where a person is (literally) coming from can provide an important context to the post.
Hi, been lurking for a couple of months, impressed by and excited about the wealth of knowledge and level of discussion in both the music side and hardware side of the forums. Hoping to contribute.
Too many rules, scattered about, and not enough Gorts?
Well, the rule about stating our location is one of those rules where breaking it is probably not going to hurt somebody, in the way that say a racial or a gender-based or homophobic slur might be hurtful, so enforcing it is probably a low priority for the moderators. However, it is something I find annoying.
Welcome aboard! Stay long and post often. Everybody has something worthwhile to say.
Coronavirus era bump.
Don't bet on it..
The meme I've liked the most has 2020 looking like a chocolate chip cookie...then we bit into it, and it's damn ! Oatmeal Raisin !
Well, we are certainly testing that assertion!
Sorry, I wrote that before we had this cr*p situation.
As a five-year member, I can honestly say that SHMF is the best place to chill on the internet - music suits my interests when it comes to talking online about something...and there has always been a high level of civility here. No nasty trolling (though sometimes a mouse runs through), and that makes the discussions so much more interesting. The effort coming from all of us makes this a continually-rewarding and happy time.

Can we get a redo on 2020 yet?
Yes, unfortunately 2020 was issued with multiple faults. A recall and repress is the only sensible option.
As my grandma used to say, “well, you gotta work with what ya got”.
