It was not necessarily by one dollar - eBay bidding history does not show how much the winning bidder was really prepared to spend.

Yes I understand this - so I stand corrected. It is possible that the winner placed a bid of $40.00, yet $30.50 was enough to win. It was just so weird to watch this thing up until the very last second, to see I was the winning bidder and then, HUH, - I lost. I guess there is a "trick" I will learn in time to ensure I win an item at a reasonable price.

Short of using auction sniper software, what you can do is have several bids ready to go in separate browser windows, and sort of fire them in a volley in the last minute or less; you could even fool the snipers with that sometimes.

You would also need to figure out the time lag, i.e. how long it takes for eBay to register your bid after you send it off from your specific ISP.

Don't feel too bad. As a "bargain hunter" I'm often outbid sometimes ten or twenty times a day!

All apart of it Mike. Snipers usually have their software set to the last 8 sec. So if you snipe yourself set it for 10 or 12 sec and that way if your bid is the same as any other snipers, you win because you placed your bid first. ;)

    Signed,
    The "manual sniper" :D

  10. I feel for you - happened to me last night. I was outbid with 6 SECONDS to go

It would have been my first DCC in my collection aswell. Still ... plenty more items to watch.

Yeah-That's Scott Taylor. He's a good guy. He's usually more of a seller but seems to be buying lately. If it makes you feel any better I'm geting ready to snipe him later today. :) Stay tuned!
    Cheers-

Keep in mind that no matter what sniping software you use or don't use...to win you still must be the high bidder. I realize that this is obvious, but - as was pointed out - it is easy to deceive yourself into thinking that you only lost by the minimum bid increment, when in fact you may have lost by much more.
