I like MELANCHOLIA though I know many would find it deadly dull.

Looking forward to the new movie.
I liked the mini-series well enough but it was lacking in many ways.

Inger Stevens is lovely in this film, as is a completely depopulated New York City (except for the three characters played by the actors shown on the poster above), but the movie is not a good one. I'd say it's worth seeing for Inger and the beautiful photography of NYC, but not worth thinking about, as the main portion of the film doesn't make much sense (if everyone else died to radiation poisoning, where are all the bodies... not even one is shown, or even hinted at off-camera), and the ending is a cop-out.

Don't know if it was made into a movie, but I remember reading Pale Horse, Pale Rider in college.

I enjoyed this one when I was a kid -- a virus turns everyone into zombie vampires that have an adverse reaction to daylight, leaving Last Man Charlton Heston to roam and salvage useful items and canned foods during the day.

  13. That’s based 0n Richard Matheson’s book I Am Legend which was adopted once before with Vincent Price (The Last Man on Earth) and the film with Will Smith. The first, it’s a biochemical plague that turns people into vampires. They changed that because, later, it had been overdone.

I believe I saw part of that on TCM last year, it was striking. I'll keep an eye out for it.

DEfinitely want to see that one. I recently watched a Vincent Price B movie based on the same story and enjoyed it.

I enjoy The Seventh Seal on many levels and to further commemorate the work of the recently deceased Max Von Sydow whilst staying on topic I recommend Ingmar Bergman's 1968 film, Shame. To quote the linked streamer's summary:

Shame probes the atrocities of war -both internal and external- as a young couple struggles to survive while the world around them crumbles into chaos.

Both Von Sydow and Liv Ulmann are very good in it. The camerawork (black and white stock) is beguiling and Bergman's direction is intriguing.

Threads comes to mind. But I’ve only been able to get all the way to the end once. To say it’s bleak is a massive understatement.

Hey, does Idiocracy count...or, has it de facto become a "documentary"...?

Except it's way too brief. You have to get through the whole boring film for the last two minutes..

I thought World War Z was scary and exciting. Hopefully it's not prescient.

Planet of the Apes (1968) except of course, you don't know it's a movie about our end times that until the last scene

Beneath The Planet of the Apes actually might be even more appropriate for this thread.

This is currently in the top ten on Netflix. I was shocked. I'm stuck at home and bring watching something that has nothing to do with this so I can take my mind off it for a while.
