I still like hall and oats and yes they’re not considered serious music. In case they haven’t been mentioned here though they probably have, I’ll add. The Monkees, though they have devoted subsequent generations of fans because of their show being syndicated on music channels and their continued efforts to tour along.

This sounds like a 'guilty pleasure' thread. I cop to liking the Gin Blossoms. :hide:

This showed up in my YouTube feed recently - and much to my surprise, I'm now hooked on a song by Willow Smith. The lyrics are absurd, but her vocal got under my skin in a good way.

I have an unusual family in many ways, including the quirky ways in which they're fun-loving. When I was a kid, I'd check anything and everything out of the local library, music-wise. Well once, after some extended family get-together at our house, my mom asked me to put on some music as we cleaned up, did dishes, etc. As a joke, I put on a polka album I'd just checked out of the library. We got a kick out of it and danced around as we cleaned up, and then that became a tradition--any time we had a family get together, we'd put on polka music while cleaning up. That led to me getting more into polka than I probably would have otherwise.

Well, not to mention that I'm originally from Cleveland. Northeastern Ohio is traditionally one of the polka capitals of the U.S., since historically there were very large Polish and German populations there, initially spilling over from Pennsylvania (I have family roots in PA, too, if you go back far enough). I'm half German (and half Italian).

My theory is that when it comes to important subjects, there are only two ways a person can answer. Which way they choose, tells you who that person is. For instance, there are only two kinds of people in the world: Frankie Yankovic people and Jimmy Sturr people. Now, Frankie Yankovic people can like Jimmy Sturr, and Jimmy Sturr people can like Frankie Yankovic, but nobody likes them both equally. Somewhere you have to make a choice. And that choice, tells you who you are.:D

The 5.6.7.8's. I liked them in Kill Bill so I took my 18 YO son to see them at The Roxy. Sweet child of the suburbs, I gained some cred.

Those were some tough looking women. I still listen to Bomb the Rocks.

Yes, somewhere else, I’d read that Cleveland is one of the polka capitals of the US.

Village People. When I was about 10 years old they and Kiss were my two favorite groups for a while. Both on the Casablanca label. The Macho Man album and the YMCA 45 were in my collection, soon joined by the Go West album.

Nana Mouskouri. A lot of her recordings slide into easy listening, but the best of it is magnificent.
