A lot of this thread seems to be taking two distinct concepts — “boomer music I like” and “bog-standard AAA pressings that sound decent” — and swirling them together in one giant lollipop. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!

That first Danzig s/t album is legit audiophile quality (great album too). I am fortunate to own an original LP.

For Rick Rubin produced with amazing sound I would also add the first two Public Enemy albums. Also great on OG vinyl!

Lots here I agree with (Dire Straits, Avalon, Rumours Kendun, Police, Joe Jackson, Nightfly etc).
If not so far mentioned, I would add Rickie Lee Jones - both her debut album and Pirates.

That does make her debut original MFSL sound even greater.

    Bit late but...
Graham Parker and the Rumour - Heat Treatment UK Vertigo 1st press. The only album I ever bought a spare copy of, which, as it was a subsequent pressing didn't sound as good...

Hmmmm. This thread bubbled up and I was surprised to see I had replied to it. Looked up my post and found this bit of snark. Must have been in a foul mood that day :D

By way of apology, I will now list 5 albums I actually think sound good (and hopefully haven’t been mentioned previously). Not saying these are the “best” as I have thousands of albums and couldn’t begin to tell which 5 sound “best”—which was probably the source of my original snark:

Bryan Ferry - Boys And Girls (an RL cut if memory serves)
Whitesnake - Ready An’ Willing (original UK United Artists lp)
Ian Gillan Band - Clear Air Turbulence (original Island lp or the Spitfire cd reissue—both great)
David Sylvian & Robert Fripp - The First Day (original UK Virgin double lp)
Van Morrison - Common One (original US WB cd)
