    It was unnecessarily compressed.

If you like the way it sounds then you are not wrong. There is no wrong or right.

Personally I think the purple box is excellent in terms of content, material, and packaging it's too bad I think the mastering is pure crapola. I love to be able to like the sound of it as you do

Sorry too lead you into a buzz saw, BIG thanks tho!
Not that I didn't know that may happen on the internet... just I thought by posting: "Found on an old Hendrix thread here at SHMF & wonder if John would like too update this post" everyone would give you a moment too do so.
Guess not; no reply requestED nor requirED.

Does anyone have the EAC results from Axis, AYE and EL (NON RE-1) that they can post in this thread or possibly PM me those results. Thanks!

I've been listening to the non-RE-1 AYE and EL. The EH CDs have greater frequency extension, but the Reprise don't have the dynamic squashing of the EH. I must admit I'm not good at hearing this, but in these cases it was pretty obvious. I'll do another Axis comparison when the Reprise CD arrives here. Pity I use a Mac, or I'd post EAC levels.
Those Reprise CDs sound very good!

Yep, I'm basically saying you guys were right all along and I was wrong. I still like aspects of the EH, but the dynamics are squashed.
Band Of Gypsys has its own comparison problems - IMHO none of the Polydor CDs sound any good :hide: . The Alan Douglas 25 the Anniversary CD has a reasonable tonal quality, but quite a bit of distortion audible (especially background vocals and bass), whereas the EH comes from a far better tape (squashed dynamics unfortunately)

It's funny, there were a number of times that I wanted to write to influence you to try the Reprise non RE-1s, but like so many things in life, it worked itself out without needing my help. Glad you are enjoying them.

Agreed the original Polydor disc is unfortunately the way to go for Band of Gypsies on digital. The EH version is too compressed. I wish someone would release an uncompressed version of the master tape for BOG.

I don't think any sound great. Would love hi Rez remasters or a box set ala Doors perception with 5.1 mixes as Hendrix wanted his music to 'surround' the listener.
