I don't sell much on Discogs but I have some cds listed. I have my buyer rating set to 100%. I'll sell to those with less but only if they message me and I get the chance to check their feedback. As long as it's nothing crazy, I'll alter the setting, let them buy and set it back. Due to the low volume of sales I have, I maybe entertain a request like this once a year.

A could of days ago a buyer in Canada sends me a message, says he's in Canada, interested in some of my cds but can't buy. I check him out. He looks fine at 99.9% as he only had one negative as a NPB that was about two years old. I change my setting, message him right away to let him know it should be fine now. Two days later, nothing. No order, no message, nothing. No skin off my back really as I lost nothing but 20 seconds of my time. I guess he changed his mind lol

He wanted to not have to pay as high a usage fee for the product he sold by selling it lower, then requesting the difference outside of Discogs to have more $ in his pocket at the end of the transaction.

That behaviour can be reported to Discogs as it's prohibited to make side deals outside of Discogs using their services to get in touch.

Sure felt like this was the case. Haven’t received a PayPal notice of refund yet and I promptly requested he refund it and he said that it should happen automatically from PayPal which I’m not entirely sure I believe.

If the funds aren't in his account, they would take 5 business days to clear via an eCheck. Nevertheless, you should have some notification.

I wouldn't sweat it unless you communicated with him outside of the Discogs website. Otherwise, you have a few ways of kicking him in the pants; escalate to Discogs or submit a dispute with PayPal. Before you go that route, I'd wait the 5 business days, then msg him about your intentions of escalating/disputing the transaction unless the funds are refunded. That should kick things in high gear. If it doesn't, follow through. You'll for sure get your money back; just might take a few additional clicks of the mouse to make it happen.

This happens mostly at work. We have a bunch of old inventory cds that we try to move online for cheap. So many times, someone will ask about a cd that's already the cheapest one on there (happens a lot with stuff priced under $5), most likely NM or sealed, wants pictures, etc. Then they never buy it despite confirming it's exactly the thing they want.

I can’t imagine why one would need pictures of a $5 item described as mint or near mint. You either trust the seller or not, most retail stores probably don’t want to waste time providing photos unless there’s potential for a big order.

Right, if I was selling individually and someone asked, I honestly think I’d ignore the request. Not worth my time to take photos, then send them to someone only to have them ghost me. For a store it’s definitely different, but jeez, I don’t typically ask for photos unless I know there’s another version the release is commonly mistaken for, or if the jacket condition is a lot lower than the media condition or something. $5 doesn’t even buy a gallon of gas these days, either buy the CD or don’t.

Has anyone else noticed shipping prices multiplying on discogs, especially international

Costs are going up e.g adding fuel surcharges plus general rate increases. Not sure if the whole Universal Postal Union Agreement renegotiations is still causing higher increases to the US vs other countries but initially it did in 2020.

Some sellers are still having problems with their ASP. I often seem, for example $41 to ship one cd but their actual terms will state $10.

    1. their required built-in shipping policy editor for sellers is garbage and impossible to implement with 100% accuracy
    2. international shipping is ridiculously expensive for any reliable service option. it is what it is.

International shipping out of the U.S. and AU went stupid years ago, others have caught up.

Nonresponsive sellers! I sell a few things on discogs but buy a lot more. Whenever I get an order in I get it shipped with a tracking number posted within 24 hours with the rare exception, but certainly no later than 48 hours if I can't get to the PO the next day for some reason.

Ordered 4 LP's from a seller in the UK back on 6/12 and paid immediately. The order included a first UK press Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, a Fragile Red/Plum and a Bowie Low Bilbo, so was not a cheap order. Seller has almost 30K positive feedbacks. I usually only buy from sellers with 100% rating - this guy has a 99% rating with over 500 neutral/negatives, but getting those 3 LPs from one seller with combined shipping to the US compelled me to take a chance - figured the odds were still good. Two days later the seller asks me if I want tracking and I say yes, thought I had ticked that box off in the shipping options. So he invoices me another 9 pound for tracked shipping. That was the last I heard from him.

Sent him 3 messages in the past 2 weeks with no response. Finally reported him to discogs this morning - doubt they'll do anything since they skim a lot of money off his many sales. Really want these LPs, but resigned to the fact I'll never see them. I guess the next step is to challenge the paypal transactions to get my money back.

Years of purchasing on discogs and this has never happened before. And as a seller, I can't even imagine taking someone's money and then just ignoring them.

While a 99% rating sounds good, over 500 neutral or negative ratings, plus involving an overseas seller, spells potential trouble. I tend to read over the ratings if I have any reservations about a Discogs seller. I have had issues with overgraded CDs and LPs, but I have never had an issue on Discogs with getting a refund or adjustment when that happens. Hope you get a prompt response a full refund from PayPal.

Thanks! I'm confident I'll get my money back somehow. Would rather have the records, but doesn't look like its meant to be!

Hey Scott, what the hurry really? Remember, with Paypal you've got up to 180 days before submitting a claim and you will be reimbursed if you don't get what you've paid for.

2 weeks. Mate, I'm happy if it gets to me in 2 weeks

2 weeks is nothing. But having a seller ignore your messages for 2 weeks after paying $200 for some records is not a good sign. If he had even bothered to send me a note with a tracking number, or saying there was a delay on his end, anything, I would be happy to wait it out. But the guy just disappeared after getting paid!
My first step was a Seller Not Responding report in the hopes that I get the LPs. If that doesn't work, then it looks like I'll have to go to paypal!

Yeah, just yesterday I noticed that Morphine's Detroit Bootleg had vanished from my collection and had to be re-added.

Agreed it's a PITA. Let's see what happens after the four days on the report. If he's still on Discogs after that with no communication then I'm in agreement with you to file with Paypal early for self protection.

Ugh, that stinks. This is totally petty on my part, but I hate when a record or CD I have gets spun off to a separate listing and I have to remove the now incorrect listing from my collection and add the "new" one. It only bothers me because then it looks like I just bought said record, when in some cases it's been in my collection for 30 or 40 years! (Again, totally petty, I know.)

  24. Is that an authorized or unauthorized boot? Unauthorized I kinda get but if it's a legit title...that's really unfortunate. So when you have thousands of titles submitted and some merge removes it from your collection, you'll never know unless you're paying attention. I get so many notices in my inbox that you can't keep up. Surely the better way would be to leave it in your collection and orphan the entry info so you manually have to update it or best case, they move your entry to the merged item.

It was a bare bones Ryko release.

I'd like it if they allowed you to pin something at the basic album title level just so I could see that yes I own a copy of Kind of Blue, regardless of how many different versions.
