Splungeworthy has kindly agreed that I can start one of his best of each year in the 90s threads. I hope there's still enough interest from everyone to do 1997 justice. Very tough to choose 10 albums from this year, I managed it after a pre-selection of 22 and decided to leave out the classical /soundtrack releases this time.

    In reverse order:

    10) Shleep – Robert Wyatt

    9) Flaming Pie – Paul McCartney

    8) Other Songs – Ron Sexsmith

    7) Flying Away – Smoke City

    6) Andromeda Heights – Prefab Sprout

    5) Sound of Lies – The Jayhawks

    4) Red Apple Falls – Smog

    3) Time out of mind – Bob Dylan

    2) Industry – Richard & Danny Thompson

    1) no surprises

A favourite year for music in my adult life. Each of the top 5 have been at various times my favourite album of the decade.

I noticed that too and he was completely relaxed about it. I just felt the need to check with him.

Music hit a lot of raw nerves for me that year. Probably because I turned 30 and Jeff Buckley drowned within days of each other.
