    heck yea, The Thing!
    long long time horror fan...
i like a lot of the Stephen King adaptations including Maximum Overdrive (!), Needful Things, Cat's Eye, Night Flyer, The Stand etc.. probably not a widely shared opinion
and a lot of other (non SK) movies mentioned here--the original TCM for instance

some newer ones: What We Do In The Shadows (i haven't seen the show), Bone Tomahawk and i enjoyed this a lot:

I've never seen the original Fly, but the 1986 is very good body horror, still freaks me out..

    Sinister (2012) very creepy movie
    Paranormal Activity (2007)
    Alien (1979)
    The Thing (1982)
    The Shining (1980)
    Halloween (1978)
    Annabelle (2014)
    The Ring (2002)
Drag me to hell ( 2009) not because scary, but because very fun

IIRC we first saw the remake of the Fly on HBO! then bought the VHS, DVD and the Blu-ray as they were released through the years...

I'm too lazy to type all that. I figured everyone would know what movie I meant.

Too many to name but I will say that "The Exorcist" is my favorite horror film.

Two relatively recent and very British films. Both have moments of hysterical humour which somehow makes the horror all the more effective:

    Severance
    Final Prayer

I'm surprised nobody yet mentioned these, imho all 3 are great clever flicks and released around the same time

    The Sixth Sense (1999)
    The Others (2001)
    The Skeleton Key (2005)

I was thinking about that one recently and thinking I should watch it again soon. Thanks for the reminder.

    This is funny.

Thanks to all for their suggestions on this thread. I've had fun looking up the "hidden gems" on YouTube.
