I don’t know how many times you have listened or where or when but my recommendation is try a pleasant Saturday afternoon turning into evening and see if it clicks then. It’s my favorite Sat nite record before going out when I did those things when I was so much younger then

but every time i go to reach for 'exile' to put it on, 'sticky fingers' just jumps into my hand!

I should add some more as my vote was mistakenly for 1 favorite.

So, Some Girls is my absolute favorite.

    Other favorites include:

Steel Wheels- Last consistently good album I can listen all the way through. Mixed Emotions is a great opener. Slipping Away a great closer.

It’s Only Rock and Roll- criminally over looked in my opinion. Luxury is a great track.

Sticky Fingers- I personally prefer this one over exile on Main Street .

Dirty Work- I have developed a a soft spot for this album. One Hit To The Body should have been the single.

Undercover- Really some great sonic raunchiness . Too Much Blood is just great fun. Must Be Hell still applies to many world situations today.

I love everything the Stones have done, but Some Girls is just an absolute standout for me.

It was. It just didn't do very well.

Agree it's a great song though.

Let It Bleed. Followed by Exile, Sticky Fingers, Beggars Banquet, Tattoo You, Some Girls, Aftermath, Goat's Head Soup, Emotional Rescue, Black & Blue. Everything else after that is just about equal.

Exile is like the White Album, Physical Graffiti or Sandinista. Exhaustive, the entire box spilled out. When a band does this they expect people to say it's too much. That's the idea. Like Trout Mask Replica -- you need to carve out the time.

One reason I like Exile so much is that unlike some of the other examples, it doesn't sound like a mishmash to me. I think its coherence is partly due to the way it sounds and partly because it draws a lot from the holy trinity of blues, country and gospel.

When you get a double album by a band, you often have one member's stamp all over it. With Exile, Keith was clearly in the driver's seat. I consider it a diary of sorts from the time they spent recording it. I like that this album gives you nearly the whole enchilada.

    I voted for

    Now!
    Between The Buttons (UK)
    Beggars Banquet
    Let It Bleed

I voted for Let It Bleed even tho
I only like a total of four songs
on it, two of which are my favourite
Stones songs. If it were not for Gimme
Shelter and Midnight Rambler I'd have
passed the album over, even though I
like You Got The Silver and Love In Vain
as well. I would go for Sticky Fingers
but I have heard those songs so many
times I can play the album in my head,
    in my sleep !

And it also structures the songs really well, by vinyl sides. It works best in that format, or at least if you think of the tracks as grouped as per the sides would be.
I love these big double and triple albums. Sandinista, Exile, Sign o The Times. You get to spend some time with the artists.
Sandinista sounded like a total mishmash for a long time, but has now revealed itself as being more structured than I gave it credit for. It also works a lot better on vinyl.
The White Album really is a mishmash, though.
