The easier question to answer would be what Stones albums have you mostly been playing lately ?
I can never pick one favourite.
I've been playing Black & Blue/ Rock N Roll and Emotional Rescue quite a lot lately.
The Mono box set LPs have also been on heavy rotation since its release.

    That would've been better.

I saw the post above me which is why I said 'if.' Still, it's kind of the only place for one of my favorite Stones songs - "Sittin' on a Fence" - so I play it a lot.

  7. The poll [wish that was stated in the thread title] is skewed.
The fact multiple votes are allowed completely distorts the results.

What if someone votes 5 times, what if someone votes 2 times, what if someone votes i don't know how many times?!?!
The percentages don't/wont reflect a consensus of voting SHMF Members "favorite" 'Stones' album.

    Change the title.
"Favorite Albums" would be more accurate.

Also, "record" is associated vinyl too!!
Would be interesting to see what specific pressing of wax was voted "Forum Fave"; just that's not what your attempting w/this "poll".

Gosh, after all these years I have to assume that you've tried listening to it at home, while driving, while straight, while stoned, while drunk, alone and in groups, morning, afternoon, evening and late at night.

Maybe try it as background music. Or maybe do a playlist of all the soulful, quieter tracks... a group of wonderful songs that is chock full of melodic riches, jaw-dropping ensemble playing, etc.

    :righton:

Or better yet, get a vinyl copy and listen to one side at a time as the mood strikes. That's the way the album was designed to be listened-to; each side having a distinctly different musical balance and flavor. CD's are not an album-listening experience... especially when it comes to double-albums.

Satanic Majesties without a doubt. Black and Blue is tied at second with Beggars Banquet.

Same here. I have held on to an original LP and two diff CD masterings, but just don't get it. I still try once in a while though. Not bad if taken one side at a time. Maybe you could try that. One side at a time.

    From wiki:

An album is a collection of audio recordings issued as a single item on CD, record, audio tape or another medium
    Album - Wikipedia

I don't see the definition of album on that page excluding compilations. Seems like an unwritten law.

Thanks, but they got it wrong! And excluded Flowers.

    Just kidding. :)

Not necessarily. You can vote for multiple titles. I voted for my top 10.

I'm thinking of changing the thread title to make it more obvious. I can see why it's misleading. Maybe a Gort can change it to "What's Your Favourite Rolling Stones Albums" -instead of 'record'...???

And I also forgot that Out Of Our Heads has an UK edition, so that should be changed to 'Out Of Our Heads (US/UK) in the poll.

EDIT: The name of the poll is now changed, with adjustments made to the Out Of Our Heads album, as both editions are mentioned. Thanks @Gary :)

Tattoo You's low vote count is ridiculous. The last great album.

I'm even more stunned at the low rating for the debut album. It's among the rawest and most consistent debut records ever made. In many ways, they never bettered it.

classic years: Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street

drug haze years: Goats Head Soup, It's Only Rock and Roll and Black and Blue

punk/disco years: Some Girls, Emotional Rescue, Tattoo You and Undercover

personal favourite due to unforeseen sentimental reasons: Dirty Work

I have a compilation of stuff up to and including Let it Bleed (Rolled Gold) that would trump all of these.

No doubt, but they had about 12 great ones and many of us chose to answer the original question by picking one.

For me the great ones were
    BTB
    Aftermath
    TSMR
    Beggars
    Bleed
    YaYas
    Sticky
    Exile
    B&B
    Some Girls
    Emotional
    Tattoo

It is too bad they never really made another record like Black And Blue again. Stick the two Tattoo You B & B tracks in there, it's even better!
Talk Is Cheap would definitely be up there- it is easily the best Stones solo album, for sure. It would have made a better Stones album than Steel Wheels probably...
Indeed, when it comes to the early stuff No. 2 and the debut are my favourites.

Play the debut and Blue And Lonesome back to back sometime to see how the Stones' approach to playing the blues has changed in the last 53 years:cool:
