Yeah, I grew up with Underdog, too. And I loved the little dog. And Sweet Polly.

But I've watched the cartoon recently, and I'm amazed at how bad it is. Which is not the case for, say, Rocky & Bullwinkle, which I enjoy now 1000X more than when I was a little kid!

I think I've watched 1 full episode of The Simpsons. I liked them, but I have never made a conscious effort to watch them. B & B-H are simply iconic - I'd rate them as one of the best cartoons I've ever watched, period. South Park... well, I guess I liked the first season, maybe the second. It became a bit repetitive after that. But you are right - I did enjoy those cartoons, too! :righton:

I've tried and tried, but I just can't get into The Family Guy. Seth MacFarlane is one of the unfunniest people alive.

South Park immediately comes to mind. The Simpsons aren't too far behind.

Another vote for Scrappy Doo. Also - Bat Mite, Wendy & Marvin, The Wonder Twins, Speed Racer & Clutch Cargo.

One has to keep in perspective that many of the cartoons we enjoyed as kids were made for kids. Looking at them today with a grown up eye will reveal how silly, and in some cases, how bad many of them were.

The ones that stand and hold up a little better today would be the theatrical Warners, Disney cartoons of the 30's, 40's and 50's that were written more for adults and some of the prime time cartoons of their day like Rocky & Bullwinkle, the Flintstones, Top Cat, Johnny Quest and the Jetsons that had appeal for both adults and kids.

Kids will enjoy the cartoons that they grew up with and we may grow up with nostalgic feelings for them, and when we see some of them again when we're older they may prove disappointing, but, your kids might enjoy them.

Just keep in mind, with some exceptions, many of the cartoons we loved as kids were made for kids.

  12. Jerry from Tom and Jerry. I always wanted Tom to throttle that smug little mouse.

I always wished Tweety Pie would have gotten his head chewed off by Sylvester.

    Resurrection thread, ok.

I have no love for any modern stuff, Speed Racer was probably the last thing I could enjoy. I hate all the new stuff, a talking sponge does nothing for me.

That being said my dad and I always watched the Flintstones, not sure why he liked it being born in 1925 but he really got into it.

Here, hear! What this world needs is less Finn & Jake and more Marceline & Bublegum, says I.

I agree. The world really does need more Marceline and Bubblgum, and less Finn and Jake.

    But, Nell!

Seriously, I love all the Ward stuff, even though the animation sucked.

Do you mean The Robotic Stooges, or was there another abomination, besides that one?

Except for the late, lamented Rocko's Modern Life, which I rank in the pantheon just below Rocky & Bullwinkle.

There was a series released then the Stooges were still alive from 1965-1973. Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe filmed introductions to them and provided the voices.

The Robonic Stooges was broadcast in 1977 and is awful.
