    In no particular order:

Jaws - One of Spielberg's earliest and still his best, IMHO.

Pulp Fiction - Just a great flick. Spawned a sh!tload of imitators.

Alien & Bladerunner (tie) - Ridley Scott made two of the best SF movies ever early on in his career.

Annie Hall - Still Woody's best. I find myself quoting lines from this movie all the time.

The Shining - Most people wouldn't put this above some other Kubricks, but I enjoy this one the most. Sorry, Stephen K., this beats the pants off your TV miniseries and is the best adaptation of any of your novels.

    2. Kelly's Heroes

    • Three Days of The Condor
    • Oliver Twist (1938), Oliver! (1968 musical)
    • The Sound of Music
    • Stand By Me
    • Bridge Over The River Kwai
    • The Fugitive

Changes all the time but FWIW, Martin Scorsese's top 5:

    Citizen Kane
    The Red Shoes
    The Searchers
    8 1/2
    The Leopard

In the 1992 Sight & Sound poll, Martin Scorsese said he could only list five because more than that would open up the floodgates to countless films. Great list because you can even see the influence each and every one of them has had on almost every film he's made. (And rarely a literal influence.)

    In no particular order-

    COMEDIES-

    1. Blazing Saddles- A brilliant example of satire that probably couldn't get made today.
    2. Midnight Run- A great road film that showed the comedic skills of Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin.
    3. 48 Hours/Beverly Hills Cop- The two best movies Eddie Murphy ever made.
    4. That Thing You Do!- Enjoyable from start to finish, and a catchy title tune to boot.
    5. Duck Soup- A great Marx Brothers film, and their last with Zeppo.
