I have two books of Gong signed by Daevid Allen. I also met him at a Montreal concert and he signed my latest Gong CD at the time. Nice guy!

Not rock n roll but I got one from Mariah Carey in 1992 for a friend. He taped it to his guitar. As far as I know, it is still there.

I'm not into autographs at all — no knock against those who are, but I've never seen the point.

I made an exception, though, when The Pretty Things played a small club in Cleveland ca. 1999. As much for the coolness factor as anything, I took the U.S. version of S.F. Sorrow on the Rare Earth label along with me (one of those with a rounded top cover) and got Phil May, Dick Taylor and John Povey to sign it. Had a nice chat with Dick Taylor in the process.

Glad we got the obligatory “I don’t get autographs” post out of the way.

    roger daltrey.

he was in town, doing intro spots for a documentary (i think), on pirates lol.

i had 2 friends working on the set, and i got in, as the photographer for the crew shot lol

i distinctly remember just being there in a waiting area, looking at him, trying not to stare LOL ... he was about 10 ft in front of me, sitting on the couch, reading the globe and mail (canadian newspaper)

i had opportunites to talk to him, but i just left him alone out of a combination of respect, and nerves ...

at the end, i couldn't even ask him for his autograph, and got one of my friends on the crew to get him to sign 2 cds for me (tommy and live at leeds)

he wrote the classic "BE LUCKY"

    that's my story !

oh yeah, for the crew shot, instead of saying "say cheese" i said, "live at leeds" and got some good smiles!

No offense, I’m from an obscure land that doesn’t offend easily and where sarcasm is the primary language.

I used to have Cheap Trick's autographs on the One on One album. I use to have Bonnie Tyler's autograph on a picture ... I won them in some competition.
I got the whole Dire Straits touring band autographs on the Brothers In Arms tour. I gave them to my cousin when he was sick, because he loved the band too, and I thought he might like them.
In a box in Perth somewhere I have Eric Clapton's autograph from a tour he did in 85 or 86.

I don't really get too excited about autographs. When I was young I thought they were pretty cool.

I'm sure there's threads on this already.

My most treasured autographs are Jeff Lynne and George Harrison on the back of a Bob Dylan backstage pass (NEC, Birmingham, 1989). Bob Dylan didn't sign it. But that's a different story.

There's a big difference between asking a celeb/muso for an autograph, and a them actually just sending something nice like that. I am not surprised you have them on the wall, that certainly is a treasured memory I would presume.
