Only the best: Michael "Snock" Hurley. Ordered some CDR's from Snocko, and he burned the discs and hand-labeled them in his unmistakable handwriting.
Both gentlemen were gracious, polite and more than happy to sign. Had a natter to us for a few minutes before climbing onto the tour bus. Blows the whole 'never meet your heroes' bollocks right out of the water.
I'm not really a collector, but if the opportunity presents I have offered up a record sleeve or something with grubby hand to the following: David Bowie - Signed copy of Station to Station, signed at a Tin Machine TV taping. David Bowie - Signed photo at the Hanover Grand in 97? Blondie - Eat to the Beat album cover, a record signing 'back in the day'. The Pretenders - First album, a record signing 'back in the day'. The Clash - Remote Control 45, Signed by all members 'back in the day' at The Lyceum in London, in 81? Joe Strummer - Earthquake Weather album cover, record signing at Virgin Records in 87. Siouxsie and Budgie, Wild Things 45, record signing 'back in the day'. The Only Ones, signed first album cover, record signing 'back in the day'. Diana Ross - signed photograph, Palm Springs CA, in 2010. Ray Davies - signed sheet music for the greatest song ever, Waterloo Sunset, signed here in CA about five years ago. Johnny Rotten - signed photo, PIL show, 80's. Adam Ant - Dirk Wears White Sox, signed in LA about five years ago. My mum's collection is more note worthy. She has a full set of Beatles autographs from their show in Northampton in 63 where they were on the bill with 'American Sensation' Tommy Roe and Chris Montez (I think), and a set from The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Martha and the Vandellas and Stevie Wonder from the Motown Review Tour in 65?. Selling Ki Ora orange squash at the local ABC had its perks.
So glad to hear that. I follow a blog called Meet the Beatles For Real, where the person compiles fan accounts of meeting the Beatles. I can't recall a situation where someone met George and he was really rude to them, at least as far as the stories in that blog are concerned. My dad ran into Dhani Harrison at Universal a few months ago (he does legal work for them) and said he was soft-spoken and seemed like a very nice guy. Like father, like son, it seems.

This is one that has a bit of a story. My wife Vickie knew Armando Gallo when he was touring with Genesis with a book of photos he had taken of the band from their earliest days call I Know What I Like. They kept in touch, we traveled out to Los Angeles for New Year's Eve 1983. We met up with him, and he let us go through the slides that he had shot of Kate Bush when she appeared on an Italian TV show called Riva del Garda. We spotted this one, and fell in love with it. As far as I know this is the only time a print has been made of this. It's signed on the back by Armando, and then we got Kate to sign it on the front in 1991. We were able to return the favor to Armando by getting him into Before the Dawn. He's been a concert photographer most of his career, and claimed that this was the only concert he'd ever paid for.
Crosby/Nash - 1993 - solo tour - they signed my tour shirt - super-friendly. I did get to meet Ray Manzarek at Penn State Arts Fest, 1994. Shook his hand, and he was so friendly...I was in awe of him...did not ask for an autograph.
Yeah, he's a really sweet guy. Here's Armando on the left, my wife Vickie and another great Italian photographer, Guido Harari on the right. He had taken some amazing photographs of Kate and had a gallery show of his photographs of her during the concert series.
