OK, he's a disgusting scumbag of a person, but putting that aside, what do you think of his music?

Shock rocker for the sake of being shock rocker or is there something there?

Never liked him. Back in the 90s he felt like the imitation version of NIN. He had all the bombast but none of the textures or nuance or emotion. His whole shtick could be boiled down to “I don’t like religion” and “does this make you mad?” It’s boring. Perfectly summed up by this onion article:

Awful. I tip my hat to him though - he's been rich and famous for almost 25 years now without doing anything of IMO any merit. How he is pulled that off is, baffling to say the least. To me, his music was terrible, the only song I've ever liked was his cover of "Sweet Dreams", and well, that's a cover.

    Just an F-level artist, IMHO.

Manson has an irritating habit of repeating a line that he thinks is brilliant twice in a row, in case you didn't get it the first time.

His album 'Antichrist Superstar' sounds similar to 'The Downward Spiral'

Never been impressed by a note of it.

Alice did the "dude with a girl's name" thing much, much better. And much, much earlier.

Good thing it turns out that he's also not a great person, otherwise I might have someday felt bad about detesting him as much as I do.

Loved the new album We Are Chaos. Shooter Jennings brought out something really fun out of him. Rest of his catalog is very hit or miss, but enough good stuff to make a good playlist.

    I enjoyed his pizza parlors

His music was cringe, fanbase cringe, even during his heyday.

Have you listened to any albums, or just going off the fact he has essentially been famous for 25 years for being 'edgy'? (Just wondering, you are entitled to any opinion)

I didn't say my opinions in the OP, but I think his trilogy are great. The rest, not much.

I have to wonder how much distate towards his music is due to the likes of him and Slipknot etc, being so huge and edgy to kids in the 90s and 2000s, and the effect that had on people who found it all annoying.

I was a teenager in South Florida during his formative years when his band was known as "Marilyn Manson & The Spooky Kids" and they were a popular live act. I think they put a good show, but I hated the music. I like some some of the bands he draws influence from, but always hated the end result.

I liked Portrait and the Smells like Children ep, but I thought Antichrist Superstar kind of sucked. Now I got down with Mechanical Animals, but Hollywood sucked. I’ve kept up with him from there but I haven’t been an overt fan of any of the albums from then on.

Same here. But I also felt the same about Trent at the time.
Manson seemed like a direct product spewed from the butthole of MTV.

Never had much use for the guy aside from a few songs here and there. "Beautiful People" was OK but beyond that, I liked his cover songs ("Tainted Love," "Sweet Dreams") better than any of his own stuff.

When he first blew up big, I worked with a gal who was a big M.M. fan. At the time, it seemed like every rock/metal magazine I bought had a Marilyn poster in it, so I would tear them out and give them to her with funny signatures on them ("To Martha, my #1 Fan, Satanically Yours, Marilyn") and she'd hang hem over her desk. If anyone asked her if the autographs were real she'd say "of course!" :D

Don't know much, but I like The Beautiful People. Have made peace with the fact that a lot of music I like was made by terrible human beings.
