    Both my systems play vinyl, CDs, SACDs and DVD-As. No downloads. Very occasional streaming via my phone.

    They don't. What matters is the music, not the format. If I like some music, I try to get it in the best format available, not the other way round.

    They're all potentially high quality, some more reliably so than others.

    Some days I just want to listen to music without fiddling around with anything. Plug and play.

    I thought the poll would be more detailed.

    Vinyl (33/45);
    DSD (close enough to first that this is usually interchangeable with vinyl);
    Hi-Res PCM (including streaming);
    CD (close to third, including streaming);
    MP3 from streaming;
    Silence;
    MQA

    In that order.

    These are pretty cool. They are vinyl discs that are read with a needle.
    How they fit all that video information on that format, I'll never know!

    Not exactly.

    Capacitance Electronic Disc - Wikipedia

    Read the part about "How CEDs work".

    "The capacitive stylus pickup system which gives the CED its name can be contrasted with the technology of the conventional phonograph. Whereas the phonograph stylus physically vibrates with the variations in the record groove, and those vibrations are converted by a mechanical transducer (the phono pickup) to an electrical signal, the CED stylus normally does not vibrate and moves only to track the CED groove (and the disc surface—out-of-plane), while the signal from the stylus is natively obtained as an electrical signal."

    All in all, it was as much of a failed idea as CD-4 quad records....and just about as fussy.

    Excellent information, indeed!

    And I found this interesting:

    "The discs themselves could be inexpensively duplicated, stamped out on slightly-modified audio LP record presses."

    A few more to add that my system covers:

    SQ quadraphonic LP
    Reel to Reel quad/4 track
    VideoCD
    DVD-A
    Super VHS
    VHS NTSC
    VHS PAL
    VHS SECAM
    DVD all region
    DVD 4K

    And some more to add that I do not have the ability to play:

    Dyna quad
    QS quad
    CD-4 quadradisc
    UD4 / UMX quad
    8-track quadraphonic
    DVC Pro
    MQA
    CED videodisc PAL
    CED videodisc SECAM (does this exist?)
    Super Beta
    Beta PAL
    Beta SECAM
    LaserDisc PAL
    LaserDisc SECAM

    It is quite amazing how many different formats there have been over the years.
    All had their own strengths and weaknesses.

    But digital formats seem to have prevailed.

    Surely you mean Bluray 4K?

    No, and I'm surprised there was a PAL version. The slightly less obsure European counterpart was the TED disc.

    If you want to go more European, don't miss on Video 2000 and its predecessor VCR, which is probably the first "modern" home video format.

    I guess I could add DVD-A to the list via a universal player, Oppo. I haven't spun a digital disk in years so it slipped my mind. Bought it for ripping SACDs and have actually never heard it or even connected it to my preamp.

    All digital. Ripped all my CDs. They sound just like CDs. Digitally recorded my keeper LPs. They sound just like LPs. Stream from Qobuz. Sounds like music.

    Thanks to everyone who's responded so far! I was surprised by the result. Most of the threads in Audio Hardware seem to be about analog stuff, yet 94% of those who responded were either "digital only" or "analog and digital." That answered my question about whether people's listening is limited by format compatibility.
