Its actually normal for musicians to throw in the towel later on in their lives. Being a touring musician is "not" conducive to maintaining a family. Once the reality regarding subjects like retirement start coming up, people start thinking about their future and how what they are doing is fitting into that plan. Its a young persons game.

He probably did quite well on royalty cheques for the No Doubt cover of It's My Life.

I saw Corky and Leslie West a few years ago at HOB. He must have rim shot 20 sticks in the 40 minutes they were on stage.

Vito Bratta from White Lion had to take care of his sick father for many years. He talked about doing something again later on, but I don't think he ever has.

Before that he was in Dare, the band formed by Darren Wharton after Thin Lizzy.

I read somewhere that Overkill guitarist Bobby Gustafson became a plumber after he left the music biz.

He has completely retired from the music world. According to several people in a recent tv documentary he was never happy with the rockstar life, got seriously in trouble and somehow wanted to leave it all behind.

I know a lot of indies who faded out simply because their career was going nowhere fast enough.

Peter Baumann of Tangerine Dream left the music industry and founded an organization "dedicated to the exploration and support of optimal human well-being", a description that makes me think of:

David Schelzel of "The Ocean Blue" became an IP lawyer. They recently came out with a really good album so the retirement never was 100%.

  22. Before that, though? Perhaps he has a reasonable income stream from "Life's What You Make It" and "It's My Life"; while they weren't big hits they do still turn up on various radio formats, and have been in some movies I think.
