I've learned that I'm not the only one that likes and 'gets' some cool junk, and been turned on to some cool junk I'd missed.

I’ve learned how truly bad the music my kids (13, 11) listen too is. When I try to get them to listen to my music I get reminded that it’s from the 1900’s and it’s 2021.

I've mostly learned that no matter how much I know about music, hundreds of people know way more. I came here as a victim of Dunning-Kruger and I stand before you now as someone who knows a little bit about a lot of music but mostly surface level stuff.

When applying EQ, it's always better to reduce than boost.

Been a lurker for years, but here are just a few:

Better appreciation of sound quality. Introduction to The Beatles catalogue in mono. A database of discussion & debate over just about any music release I can think of - and convenient comparisons between different pressings, box sets, and vinyl vs cd vs digital of certain releases!

Just a wealth of knowledge and a friendly community of music enthusiasts!

Welcome!! Right on all points. And mentioning Beatles, in mono no less, you are home.
Now dive in, water's fine, despite the sharks

    NekoM Seriously not serious.

I’m all about differing opinions, peoples points of view are completely valid as far as I’m concerned, I’m not going to call anyone out for quoting me Wikipedia either, often I’m learning something.

Mainly vocabulary that is used to describe the way music sounds. And knowledge of the reason why the sound of CDs changed about 20 years ago for the worst.

    Also some excellent online companionship.

Recently? That some people are buying vinyl "for all the wrong reasons". It makes me wonder: What are "wrong" reason to buy vinyl? And who defines what's what?

Are people buying cereals or a loaf of bread "for all the wrong reasons " as well? It makes me wonder.....

Guess I'll have to be careful next time I'm entering a record store. Which - incidentally - might be this afternoon.

The reason I shied away from them was that I was really tired of a few hits being incessantly on the radio. I had no idea how good a lot of deep tracks were there for the taking.

Packed up my stereo a few weeks ago because I was moving and realized what a cheap thing it truly is but I love it anyway.

I really feel that having a very expensive system would cause me undue stress. I tried to find a happy medium.

And then you can get into the Mark Knopfler solo catalog if you want! I’ve seen him in concert one time, in 2010. I told a co-worker I was going. She said he had one hit with Sting, right? That’s all I know. I said, oh you have no idea what there is to discover!!!

Yes, already there! Much love Mark's guitar style and his lyrical skills that go with it. IIRC, Mark was a teacher earlier in his life as was I.

What have I learned? That if you want to badly enough any single topic of conversation can easily become about the Beatles.

As of late, I’ve gained a place to talk about topics that are not so serious which is great because I’m writing a serious book and getting over a foot injury so have to spend a lot of time with my foot elevated. It’s a good distraction and mood lifter.
