The main thing I've learnt is that people have no idea what subjective and objective mean.

    The Beatles are subjectively overrated.

I disagreed with this comment at first but upon reflection I must confess it is actually quite true.
This creepy thread further illustrates this point: Respect but don't actually like--who is in your blind spot?

If a critic or the cool crowd once ever thought anything or anyone uncool, …it remains…uncool unless, as rarely happens, it’s later established as..cool. Many old and new threads will be created…on …what’s your favorite/least favorite songs, artists…..and the cool folks/songs alway win but the uncool folks/songs always lose. There’s hardly any tolerance for any ….genre or stylistic variety particularly is there’s lots of it on an album, within songs or by an artist…as such is called…inconsistency on SHF.

Me too. Still miss the Guild. Never got to solve the mystery of The Hollywood Phantom/Recofile/Mentor. They and many others made it a fun, interesting source of great information.

Love to read what others think.
Many have a strong need to bring order in their music hobby.
Artists and albums need to be ranked. Cognitive resonance? Must a bit of a male thing.
So, I also get to peek in the human soul.

What I have learned is that Americans have a reverence bordering on religious cultishness for the Beatles and Stones that the British don't.
I have also learned from the hardware section that there are a hell of a lot of people with more money than sense .

Some on here believe The Jam were punk.
That says it all. Americans mainly.
The British know they were Mods.

I’ve learnt about listening fatigue (of which I’d previously been subjected to, but didn’t have a name for - as well as an explanation as to why it manifests itself), and that ‘newer’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘better’.

Oh, and that sometimes the cheap-looking tacky CD copy of an album is the best version you’ll hear!

My musical taste is out of the forum’s mainstream…and that’s okay with me. I really enjoy the time I spend here even though!

That you have to listen for yourself. If you like it’s fine, if you don’t it’s fine as well. It doesn’t matter if the so called forum know it alls disagree.
