What if the Beatles had released an eighth studio album in late 1966?

I think takes 2-4 of SFF is as close as we’ll come to knowing what it would have sounded like. Actually, I think that if they were ever going to do an album of songs about Liverpool and life in the North, it would have happened then. I think it would have had a somewhat softer sound, lightly psychedelic but more wistful and introspective than either Revolver or Pepper.

A whole album of Felpin Mansions. I would’ve loved that actually...

Lead single: ‘When I’m 64’/‘Please Don’t Bring Your Banjo Back’

Technically they (Parlophone) did come out with Oldies but Goldies, with 1 new song: Bad Boy, and some new stereo remixes.....

Maybe a double Goldies album with all the b sides and rare ep tracks mixed in.

The stereo and the mono box set would have been more expensive then!

I don’t know, but how’s this for a ‘bridge release’ between “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “The Beatles”?

Ever heard Magical Mystery Tour? :D

I'd think that one Post-Pepper LP for the thirteen April/October 1967 tracks is great, and an EP for the four Jan/Feb 1968 tracks would do

Maybe we make it a budget priced LP!

I’m not counting American albums, but I agree. “Magical Mystery Tour” is much better. And “Carnival of Light” is 14 minutes unedited, so it could have fit a side as a freak-out jam-type filler if edited. This album would have sounded a lot like “Their Satanic Majesties Request” by The Stones.

I still can't understand why Lennon and McCartney (not Harrison) wrote SO FEW songs in 1966 compared to every other year of the Beatles career. Recorded less, yes, I get that, but not written less.. It's crazy to me that there are only 13-15 (15 if you push it and count SFF and Penny Lane: When I'm 64 doesn't count imo as it was mainly written in 1956) Lennon/McCartney compositions from this year, and seemingly not even any rumours of any leftovers. Kind of odd.

You know what? I’m glad things happened the way that they did. “Sgt. Pepper’s” might not be as good of an album as “Revolver,” and that’s completely debatable, but it’s beyond doubt that it’s one of The Beatles’ most influential works in terms of its plethoral impact on the sixties and beyond, and they certainly would not have broke out of their “boy-band” “teenybopper” shell as easily if without it.

EXACTLY. I'm even surprised that didn't happen earlier, with all the insane amounts of work they pulled off from 61-66.

Also odd is that they released two album tracks as the single from Revolver (and on the same day), something they hadn't done in the UK since A Hard Day's Night, and something they wouldn't do until Klein did the "Something"/"Come Together" single to get some money coming in.
