I wish I could see it as funny. It just seemed toxic, as if the idea of Paul being spiritual is some kind of bad thing.

This One was the first song I thought of. Surprised not to see it at all on page one.

Another vote for Little Lamb Dragonfly. It sounds dreamy, lush and at least has some poetic/fantastic lyrics (although not as spiritual as the songs from Lennon and Harrison).

Don't Let It Bring You Down is another one with the same profound, dreamy and contemplative mood/atmosphere but it doesn't get to be a spiritual song such as #9 Dream.

I don’t think he gets into this territory often except through the Fireman albums. Maybe Palo Verde if you want to pick just one song. I get a spiritual feeling from Standing Stone too.

Not so sure about that. There have been numerous reports about Paul and his band praying before their concerts as well as photos of their prayer circle. This and his song about being "Cosmically conscious" certainly speak of a form of spiritual enlightenment.

That one is certainly a peace anthem. "Peace In the Neighborhood" may well be another one.

I agree (seriously, not facetiously). I honestly don't get all the derision for "Freedom" (I learned my lesson about using the word "hate" around here). It's an anthem of peace, tolerance, freedom, and pulling together to achieve those ideals, much like John's "Give Peace a Chance." Both songs are rather jingoistic, but their hearts are in the right place and they have catchy singalong choruses, and getting everyone singing along is one of the most unifying activities in history. Pete Seeger certainly knew the value of it.

  11. Musically perhaps, in spirit? …if not lyrically…

    “India” (circa 2001)

You must not be aware of Paul and his band praying before every concert, the line in his much maligned song "Freedom" that speaks of "a right given by God", or his peace-affirming songs like "C'mon People", "Peace in the Neighborhood", and "Cosmically Conscious." In a book about one of his concert tours (It may have been the one called Put It There) in which he and his band played the Coliseum where gladiators had fought and Christians were thrown to the lions, an interviewer referred to Paul as a "rock'n'roll gladiator." Paul replied, "Well, I'm Christian. Close enough?"

I agree . The proof is in the pudding. Fifty plus years of the practice of Transcendental Meditation gives Paul a spiritual credibility beyond everyone who talks the talk. Sir Paul walks the walk.

A lot of Paul's songs are about believing in people rather than mysticism/higher powers. However, I don't really see a connection between My Sweet Lord and #9Dream. The association of the two of them seems forced.

Paul's My Sweet Lord, his song to a higher power, would be Let It Be while Monkberry Moon Delight would, IMO, be his equivalent to John's nonsence song #9dream (I say that as a huge fan of both songs).

    Yes! Good one.

Not quite as "spiritually" on target is Somebody Who Cares... [I get the same emotional vibe from it as DLIBYD, but doesn't appeal to me quite as much..]
