I will take a look to see what I have. I listened to the remaster of The Best Of (1980-to 1990) the other day...that thing sounds horrendous.
I am tearing my hair out on this one. I just got a Joshua Tree 7 90581-2 made in USA by PDO on the basis this is the "light blue" mastering. I ran it through EAC and it turns out to be the purple/pink numbers which I already have on a UK CID U2 6 disc. I know there is a table with the different numbers but can someone please tell me where I am going wrong to get the light blue master version?
Wow. US PDO must of used two sources. I have a later 'PDO' under PMDC (90's) that uses the WG (Light Blue)
Would you be able to give me any other catalog/matrix number information that might help me locate and order this correct one? Reading discogs release pages are making me dizzy. I did read somewhere on the thread that 90581-2 with the club code 153501D and made in the USA by PDO was the "correct" one. Do you happen to know if that is right as I can possibly grab one of those on ebay.
Blue: U2 - The Joshua Tree U2 - The Joshua Tree U2 - The Joshua Tree I'm sure there are others, but those are what I have.
This title was in the first batch of 5-6 cds that I bought for my brand new Technics player in summer 1987. Ironically, even back then I was underwhelmed by SQ. At least compared with other cds and even compared to JT cassette I already had. I recall being puzzled and thinking “it has to be better right?”.
You got that right, it is a nightmare sifting through Luke's first one is the one I have-PMDC, 90's (Blue) On the ton's of various club's I'm not sure. That Sanyo is the first one I've found.
I remember that feeling with ELO's Time on CD Jeff, having the cassette for years.- I was not blown away. It took the help from this forum to understand it all pretty much starts at the recording/mixing stage.
I have been looking through the various recommendations on the Discogs release pages. Do you happen to have a note as to whether this one ( BMG club made in USA by WEA) has the correct indexing between tracks 9 and 10?
Not sure which is correct, but just looked at the ripped tracks in Audition and my copy has the longer (5:23) track 9.
I picked up an original Japan pressing a couple of months ago for 5.99. Can't really discern a difference between it and my original W German.
The correct indexing has track 10 start at the beginning of Exit. The incorrect indexing has track 10 start at the coda to One Tree Hill.
And the frustrating thing about it is the music on that album is so ******* GOOD, one can only imagine what it sounded like to be in the studio during the recording process. I saw one of the live Joshua Tree shows- and "Where The Streets Have No Name" just about ripped my lips off even though I was up in the nosebleeds. Too bad it doesn't sound that way on the actual album.
Stephen, you deleted your post! You have the WG (light blue)- correct indexing. One Tree Hill-5:22 Exit-4:13
I recently picked up a copy of the MPO France ( "green mastering") disc. I got to say that I quite like this one. Very decent high end, decent bass and not "muddy" in the middle, if you know what I mean.
+ Don't know what you mean! Only seen the last page, so if anyone can direct me to where the differences of the blue & green masterings is or explain it [again] would be appreciated. THX
I can't for the life of me find my pressing on Discogs and the craziest part is it has no audio Peak match to any of the previous documented masterings in this thread. Sounds amazing though so I can't complain but what the HELL do I have here??? there isnt one...not an audiophile recording or band....meant for car listening, etc...great lp tho...bass is really hot , bloated, muddy
That's the RE-1 mastering, very slightly tweaked. Stays in perfect sync, comes close to nulling out but doesn't quite. Is it a record club version by chance?
