I was referring to the mono versions when I made that statement but I totally agree with your comments about releasing the entire 50's and 60's recordings in mono and stereo without playing with silly the digital reverb and hard EQ.

Dot Records did a remix of THE YOUNG ONES soundtrack album in 1961 from the EMI multi track that was sent to the USA. Randy Wood said there was only one studio in the USA that could play back the tape. Obviously it was 1". Referred to as the original three-track by DOT, I never saw the soundtrack on DOT but I know it was issued. They changed the name though. Does anyone remember what the thing was called in the USA?

I bought the Young Ones MFP CD as well for the best sounding version of the title track Ones on CD.

I can't find any EMI UK auctions for the Summer Holiday MFP CD yet.

It was called 'It's Wonderful To Be Young' and a new song was recorded with this title to go over the front credits for the USA market.
I have seen the original Dot album over the years on ebay.

Ah, that's right, thanks. Fascinating correspondence between Randy Wood of DOT and Norrie at EMI. Trying to figure out how to break Cliff in the USA since ABC-Paramount Records tried and failed first. I remember the USA mix was slightly different than the UK mix, but mainly in dynamics.

Steve, thanks for recommending the Music For Pleasure CDs of his early material. Your Razor & Tie CD can be cheaply found used on Amazon in the US with his later hits.

Yes. Snatch up a copy of that Razor & Tie disc if you can find it! I nabbed a 'back-up' copy at Half Price Books not too long ago for 6 bucks in nearly perfect condition.

Frankly it all goes downhill with The Young Ones 'n strings.
58-62 is Cliff and the Shadows best period
Some of Malcolm's recordings are really meaty
And the stereos remarkably good for the time
If only GM could have taken over from Norrie in 62.
    Ah well ,thats Show Biz.

'Me and my Shadows' is another golden age Cliff
Before strangulation of tone and strings...........

A nice album. Did EMI ever release an untampered-with and noise reduction-free CD version?

'Me And My Shadows' is among the finest pre-Beatles British albums.

Most likely they haven't on this album so I went with the most recent twofer.

Its 'me and my shadows' and 'listen to cliff' EMI CD

    Big fat sound untampered ish

Norrie was old school so Malcolm has the upper hand I think

    Very chunky sound

Jets bass febrile, Hank AC15 big and Meatzi Factotumed exquisitly

    Malcolms stereo excellent.

There was a mono and stereo on one CD released about ten years ago but now sadly deleted but there is a great sounding out of copyright double CD called 'Cliff Richard Rockin' With The Shadows' on Amazon with great packaging and book, the current EMI two-on-one has a couple of shortened tracks

My final early Cliff purchase for now is the Cliff Richard Rockin' With The Shadows set for the unshortened tracks from the "Me and My Shadows" album plus get the mono and stereo versions of the album.

You won't be disappointed it is a great package and as well as the 'Me And My Shadows album in mono and stereo it also has the 'Expresso Bongo' EP and various singles and 'B' sides from the same period and all in great sound it's a bargain for the price.
