I just watched the sequel, it very much had the heart of the original. There were a few more ‘modern’-type jokes that felt slightly out of place, but besides that I can’t think of much I had wrong with it. I look forward to include it in my Christmas’s going forward.

what do you mean by modern? if they weren't from the early 70's and before then they were out of place.

Not any pop culture type thing, it just kind of felt like a modern joke (punchline-wise) that threw me off a bit, more so in the trailers, but it’s not too big of a deal in the movie, and I forgot about it when watching it. It’s a very tiny nit-pick

Loved it! An ingenious, big-hearted homage to the original. Cool to see Shepherd’s kinfolk in the credits.

We get out all the Christmas stuff the day after Thanksgiving. We will watch it as we are putting everything up. I'm glad to hear people are liking it. I assumed it would be pretty bad.

You don't think It's A Wonderful Life is dark? It's a sentimental ending for sure but it only works because of Bailey's suicidal desperation.

And "Christmas Story" isn't dark at all. It's a bit cynical but it's just as much sentiment as "Life" does - without the perennially unhappy lead who wants to kill himself! :D

Not wanting to derail the thread, but suicide is a big theme in movies set at Christmas, and for good reason. (The Little Shop Around The Corner, Lethal Weapon, Trading Places....).

    Ho, ho, ho!

I’ve watched the film 3 times with three different groups of friends/family. They loved it, I loved it. And I enjoyed it even more with each viewing.

I read recently that the notion suicides skyrocket in "the holiday season" is actually incorrect.

Could be "fake news" - I don't remember the source - but it's also possible the "holiday suicide boom" is just a myth because it makes sense on paper...
