I had a Jaguar once upon a time. Cool guitar but I never could get used to it. I prefer the simplicity of the Tele.

Didn't even read the options. Just went straight to "Gibson Les Paul" and clicked. I'm personally an SG guy. But the answer is the Les Paul.

Strat... most versatile mass produced axe ever... just because the majority of players for the last 30 years wanna sound like Clapton or SRV with it, doesn't mean it can't do so much more in the right hands... note that my fave personal axe is a vintage '73 Tele Deluxe but I realize the Strat is King...

I play my Tele better. It’s light, more comfortable, easier to play and I can just set it down don’t have to baby it.

Still the last guitar I’d get rid of is my burst. Despite its weight and fragility the LP is just so right!

The Fender Stratocaster without a doubt in my mind. The reasons are quite simple: versatile (you can play any style with a Strat from jazz to rock to blues, etc.), lightweight, always a great sound (if setup right), and these guitars are easier to customize.

As much as I love the sound of a Gibson through a dimed Marshall stack, the Stratocaster is without question the iconic rock and roll guitar.

You can have my Nash S-57 with Lollars when you pull it from my cold, dead hands. Built by the man himself. I keep thinking of putting a humbucker in the bridge ...

Live, yes. In the studio he actually prefers Tele's these days.

Not sure I would say a classic strat is great for hard rock or metal. FYI I am not a fan at all of Hendrix, Blackmore or SRV’s sounds although I love their playing. It’s cartainly more versatile than the LP but I take exception to the claim that you can play any style. Taken literally you can play any style on any make but that’s not how I interpreted your post. Of course modern tech or just sticking humbuckers in changes things but then it stops being a classic strat.

Disclosure: I have a Les Paul, Strat and an SG. I voted for my favorite, the LP, but I do concede that the Strat is much more versatile.

Peter Green’s ‘59 burst with the flipped neck pick-up is the ultimate in my book.

Strat’s are nice, but I dislike where the knobs are located. I’m always accidentally hitting them!

Even though I have a 79 Frankenstrat, to me it's the SG. I wonder how Iommi would have sounded with a Les Paul. So many greats played a Les Paul.

    Mosrite, for me.
Though I use my D'angelico more the past 2 years as locking tuners help a lot when you play as hard as I do.

    Yo,

It's funny to realize that the Stratocaster was nearly dropped from production in 1967, due to lack-of-sales, & then Jimi came along....

Sure I play, & have for over 30-years now, & acquired 4-Stratocasters, as they really are comfy, versatile, look great & are unique sounding IMO, whether played clean or over-driven. And there's not really much else that's come along in over 65-years that has more modern appointments or designs featured, only subtle improvements perhaps over Leo's original design.

All this said, I picked-up my first SG around a year ago, & kick myself for not grabbing one decades ago...Killer guitars IMO, & more comfy than a Les Paul...Albeit, without a tremolo however...

Anyhow, the Stratocaster has my vote. But there are a lot of great instruments out there to make music from too.

    Cheers,

    Gregster

I voted the Epiphone Casino. I know that either the Strat or Les Paul will win, but the Casino has amazing sound qualities, is versatile for all kinds of music, and is affordable. “Drive My Car,” “You Won’t See Me,” “Taxman,” Revolution” if it’s good enough for the Beatles, it’s good enough for me!
