I have the Jay's now, the Pontus is in the mail, I have an hdmi cable ready to go, anyone know the binary code to use? Thanks!
For info on the various I2S pin configurations in use, see: OPPO BDP-83 (Yes, Old) Output to DAC for CD and/or SACD...
if you figure it out, let me know. I never got it sounding right, and so I sold off the Jay's. Sounded fine via AES/EBU, but it wasn't the night-and-day mind-blowing improvement over my streaming setup (including ripped CDs), so it wasn't worth it to keep it in the mix.
Found it, the binary code is 000 Jays Audio CDT2 MK3 manual: https://dacmanaudio.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/4b933e_7916935feb8846d79ca7022b54a662f8.pdf
yeah, i tried all the combos. how does it work for you? I will say I am running my Raspberry Pi with a Pi2AES HAT via AES into the Pontus and it sounds brilliant. Roon. HQPlayer. Etc... Better than I ever got the Jay's to sound. Shouldn't have been that way, but it was.
000 works well, using this code for I2s the Audioquest hdmi cinnamon 48 sounds better than the Audioquest digital coax cinnamon via coax.
had it run continuously for a month. Don't get me wrong, it sounded good. But I just couldn't tell enough difference between the Jay's and my Rasp Pi + Pi2AES HAT + Pontus II setup to justify the cost and inconvenience. (Aside from the turntable, the gear for this particular system is in a closet, so it's impossible to control CD tracks/volume, etc...) So, for 90% of my listening, I use roon to control streaming services and local files (CD's ripped to FLAC). Works perfectly and sounds great.
Denafrips got back to me about the code to use between the Jay's CDT2 MK3 and the Denafrips Pontus II, but couldn't give me a definitive answer as not all HDMI cables are the same. From Avin at Denafrips: I2S is more complex, at times, different HDMI cables will result in different i2s mode (code). Kindly spend some time going through the i2s setting. I highly recommend (and mandatory) to do so.
