    David Bowie's Hunky Dory is in a class of it's own.
    Even though I prefer his Ziggy Stardust.

    My opinion only, but despite The Beatles being grossly overrated and lacking in raw talent, and relying heavily on the brilliance and technical prowess of their producer George Martin, my favorite album of all time is their '68 self titled. It defied all odds as it's all over the map with its varying musical styles within, assuring its listeners quite an adventure! Even more amazingly, it's a double album with no featured singles! A true work of art, its creamy-white cover and unique edition numbers helped to sustain its allure!

    Miles' (and Bill Evans') Kind Of Blue comes very close. Innovation, reflection and beauty in one package. It's timeless.

    Love Ry and would kill to see him live (which there is a zilch chance in the U.K). Only second to Bowie in the 70's for me, his run of albums were just fantastic.

    Few are those albums that you can entirely listen to,
    This is one of them;

    Agreed. While no one ever told me so, I always presumed that a long-player was intended to be listened through in its entirely in one sitting. I know this not to be true now, as most LPs have banded tracks. Incidentally, I love that the original British editions of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band have no banded tracks. It was intended to be listened to in its entirety, and to further illustrate the point, there were no singles released from that LP!

    Yes, good call.
    "American Beauty" full album isn't available in the UK on Google Play Music (only 7 tracks available) but I managed to make a 'playlist' of the full 12 tracks.
    I've added the strangely omitted:
    "American Woman" by The Guess Who
    and "All Along The Watchtower" by Bob Dylan (I'm guessing it's the Dylan version in the film not Hendrix) as two 'bonus tracks'
    Thanks for the inspiration.

    Uh oh... miscommunication... I was thinking "American Beauty" by the Grateful Dead... not the movie. (Ducks and takes cover... :laugh:)

    Most of us who lived through that time would probably agree, artists were really stretching the boundaries of rock music, and taking the listeners with them. But why not just celebrate the album for what it is, and express your love for that time, and not try to minimize the thousands of artists that have made (and continue to make) great music since that time by comparing it to the Spice Girls career output? It just seemed a silly stretch, so I felt the urge to make what I hope was perceived as a lighthearted comment :)

    Marc Benno's Ambush. Side 1 is very R & B-ish and side 2 is very bluesy. It's chocked full of great musicians.....Bonnie Bramlett, Booker T. Jones, Jesse Ed Davis, Carl Radle, Bobby Keys, Ray Brown, Jim Keltner.... I don't know how many hundreds of times I've played it...??? I never tire of hearing it. I've been listening to it since the LP came out in the early 70's. Now, I also have the Japanese CD.

    Front to back, no bad songs, no weak points. And I'm happy to report that none had contemporary LP pressings, but 2/3 now have a more dynamic LP option, that ain't bad.
