I love "Smoke Gets in my Eyes". The Platters were such good singers. They had beautiful voices & they really hit those high notes & were brilliant with those long word-holds. :0)

The Bible, "King Chicago": "I love you, a little bit more than I love myself, and that's scary."

The whole of the Disintegration album by The Cure fits very much into that category too. A brilliant album. Achingly beautiful.

For the record, credited to White Plains rather than Edison Lighthouse when it was released, but we know it was the same group of studio musicians, particularly vocalist Tony Burrows.

@rkt88, cool stories about Arthur Lee and Bryan MacLean!

thanks for the kind words. i knew nothing of edison's lighthouse or white plains, for that matter. i am comforted to know, however that it wasn't another ron dante production.( eye roll ) though it could easily have been.

as for "love" i have more than a few "LOVE stories" as not only were they ( arthur and bryan et al ) friends and neighbors when i was a kid. but my family also has a significant history with holzman and elektra.

some might say that my history with elektra was somewhat less significant. but you'd have to ask joe smith. oh,wait! ;)

funny how even after 50+ years. a song title alone brings back most all lyrics ( however trite and cheesy - in a nice way ). i even remember when they modulate in that track without having heard it in decades.

Honestly for me it has always been I'm A Loser by The Beatles and I also love the version by Tufano & Giammarrese from there self-titled album (former members of The Buckinghams)

I always considered Harry Nilsson's Jump into the Fire to be a love song. It captures the frenetic "ya done lost yerself in love again, didn't ya?" moment in time.

An extraordinary song and singer with IMO good voice control and vibrato….regret not seeing her live in the seventies, the first female singer to fill areas I’ve read. I’m sorry about her problems with Parkinson’s. Mike be smith wrote her first big hit.
