this would be my second favorite love song and, as it happens, the second finest pop song yet written

What a great song I’d forgotten about....boomer here loves me some eighties, synth, tin drums and all....I think I had the album with this on it...I was still buying albums and singles then...before CDs hit and I mostly got lost....ok boomer, lol.
I'm partial to 'As We Go Along' by The Monkees, and the aforementioned 'Dimming Of The Day', along with 'This Must Be Love' by Phil Collins and John Martyn's 'Couldn't Love You More'.
McCartney's My Love. It's written like a jazz standard but is played as a rock ballad, with a killer guitar solo from one Henry McCullough. I know Macca gets too much press here, but this is a classic.
Interesting musical analysis...As I’m not a musician, I didn’t know it was written....like a jazz standard,..but knew it’s played as a rock ballad......and indeed Henry’s solo guitar is a classic......that’s Macca’s dad’s jazz musical influence throughout many of his solo songs........Excellent comment. Macca fan here says the dude can never get too much press....not here, not anywhere, lol.
Yeah - I never tire of that one, despite the fact that its appeal didn't hit me until the mid 90s when I was given one of those Polytel compilations.
Happy Valentines Day! My favorite love song before I met my wife was Nick Drake's "Northern Sky", and hers is probably still Patsy Cline's "Crazy"; but "our song" is Brian Eno's "I'll Come Running (To Tie Your Shoe)".
You'd probably be shocked at my more analytical posts. But we all bring something unique to the table.
Interesting and I never really thought of it that way. I guess the extended chords are part of it and maybe the way he uses the V of VI? I guess the structure as well.
