Mine's the final edition (revised 2008). I didn't read the earlier version though - I think I bought it when it was re-promoted in 2008.

I’m currently reading Brix Smith’s book. I always forget just how much of an L.A. scene kid/rich girl she was

Facing the Other Way: The Story of 4AD by Martin Aston

I'm about 1/3 the way through and really enjoying it...also downloaded the accompanying compilation album - had never heard Rema Rema - worth it for that alone. :)

You’re not the only one who struggles with these books. It’s a really interesting conceit but the actual execution (the books) is beyond hit or miss for me. It’s like a .200 batting average, if not lower.

I don't know the band but I like the name- will have to look into it.
Another not-well known Chico band- one I don't know is still around but I caught them play a few times and they were excellent- Spark 'N Cinder:

Founded at Chico State in the early 90s. I caught them on the side stage at HORDE in 1994. A band that has evolved their brand of “California soul” over the years. They remain among my alltime favorite bands/artists.

I finished reading that a month ago. I must say that Jeanne Fury the editor (co-writer) did a great job of organizing what must have been a s pile of stream of consciousness interview tapes into a coherent narrative. The Lunachicks also were pretty honest about their mistakes and behavior. Parts of the book were really quite touching and emotional which are not things one normally associates with the Lunachicks.

I recently read "Harmony in my Head" by Steve Diggle of Buzzcocks. I'm a huge fan of the band and thought Steve's book might shed a little light on the inner workings of the band. I was wrong:
200 pages later I now know:

    - Steve Diggle seems proud of what a big drinker he was, and apparently sat in the pubs his entire life doing a whole lot of nothing.
    - According to him every band of that era were all a bunch of leeching losers (he ****s on the Clash, Sex Pistols, Damned, Jam....on and on). This is 50% of the book.
    - Despite sharing the stage with the brilliant, one-of-a-kind, Pete Shelley (RIP) for so many years, he's got nothing much to say about it except complain about how Pete broke up the band.
    - an 11th grader can proofread better than whoever Steve Diggle can find.

    Waste of time.

Agreed. I worried that it might be a toned down, safe read but it really had Rod’s voice.

I bought Rick Beato’s Beato Book really to just support his channel which I enjoy immensely. Not being a musician it was miles (and Miles) over my head, but still fascinating.

I recently got Chris Frantz' book on life in the Talking Heads from the
library. I'm a casual fan at best. But this is one of the best music-related
books I have ever read. Highly recommended.

That was like a bible to me back in the day. But you might then want to eventually grab a copy of Danny Sugarman's (referred to as "Denny Sullivan" in your book) Wonderland Avenue; the end of Morrison's life is reported WAY differently.

I just started the Harrison/Clapton All Things Must Pass Away. I really didn't know much about Clapton's early life. I didn't know he had the Bobby Darin thing going on thinking his mother was his sister. I didn't know about the poverty he lived in as a young child. I haven't gotten too far in yet. I didn't really know anything about Patty's childhood either.

A really fun read. Not too much on the music, which I would have liked, but still very good. Nice titbit about Forever Young. I’d love to quote some of his one liners but won’t spoil them.

I'm reading Rod Stewart's book now. Not bad. It was interesting to hear about his days in The Jeff Beck Group, Faces etc. All the relationship stuff is a bit boring to me, but it is a big part of his life so I wouldn't have expected him to skip over it all.
