I'm wondering why no full shows from 1984 and 1988 were released since Frank's death. 1988 tour was phenomenal. Any insight?
...tempting. My mom would love that as she’s a big vintage Coca-Cola collector. That’s a little out of my Mothers Day budget though.
Off-Topic Dept.: I gave the Kickstarter a few Zappa references, given that most-to-all of the premier screenings of Alex's doc will be cancelled! Hey, I’ve said the same thing, and I’ve practiced what I’ve preached. However, I would have bought physical copies of all of the releases after Roxy if they’d been in clamshells, with similar pricing. Hell, I think all of us would have done that. And nobody would be thinking, “Hey, you know what’s missing here? A rubber mask or a board game!”
My guess is that since FZ released so much from those tours it was low priority. May happen eventually.
I agree, but...content wise there are still interesting parts of that tour that have not been released. We got both Roxy (12/8/1973) and Halloween Chicago (10/31/73) plus the YCDTOSA Helsinki show(s) which have a similar lineup and set list.
With VERY few exceptions, the artwork on all posthumous Zappa releases has been dreck and garbage. It's been a quarter century, time to quit griping about it.
...I wonder if this situation will put any upcoming releases on hold for the time being? That is if anything was planned...
I've recently given up waiting on the next vinyl reissues, assuming now they aren't coming (its' been nearly 3 years since the last one - Chunga), and bought 2nd hand copies of Waka and Wazoo. Wazoo is really hard to come by the UK so had to buy one from Germany.
My guess: the next thing to come out of the Zappa vault, will be childish in-fighting from the Zappa Family Sit-Com.
Either an expanded Fillmore 71 show or the BTM expanded show. They also spoke of doing something along the lines of 200 Motels if they can Aguirre the rights. They also promised the early 1970 studio out takes. I am hoping to hang around for 2022 for the Grand Wazoo box.
Are there anymore Halloween shows left in the vault? Call me crazy, but I love the costume boxes and hope the series continues.
