What other artists could a Bohemian Rhapsody-type work for?

I’d love to see a film on Captain Beefheart. It would be a more cult thing obviously but still, I think with him, a biopic would be more fitting than a doc.

Like Pink Floyd, you’d have to go the miniseries route with Zappa.

Yep, I believe the title was The Drummer. I think part of the reason it fell through was some objections from the family.

I do disagree though, I think Brian's life is one of the most compelling of his generation. The fact that it took forever for Heroes & Villains to become Love & Mercy, get produced and released is part of the reason it didn't succeed at the Box Office. It was probably 15 years too late to maximize earning potential. Plus, it was kind of an intimate "art house" film.

Still though, I count Love & Mercy as my favorite music biopic. I coveted seeing Brian's life brought to the big screen for a long time. Seeing a little blurb here or there that it was going to be made and then...nothing. And then FINALLY Bill Pohlad got it done. I was ready to be let down but instead it surpassed every single one of my expectations. And I had read the screenplay before it even came out — and it STILL exceeded them. That's as high a praise as I can give it.

    It's a special, special film.

Along with Woodstock , Live Aid is the most famous concert of all time. Of the gigs suggested these are the only 2 that would mean anything to the average person. So would be difficult to hang so much of the narrative around the one event in any other film.

A Sex Pistols biopic could work, if for no other reason than to wipe away any memory of that horrid "Sid and Nancy" abomination.

First actor that came to mind was Tilda Swinton.

If they got the right script and the right actor, that could be a hell of a movie. From All-American surfer boy to partying with Charles Mason to romancing Christine McVie.
