What software are movie editing houses using for restoration?

    Columbus, Ohio
    Final Cut Pro X , Avid, Premier, etc as general video editing software are known to most people. Do major movie studio editing houses use specialized software for restoration, transfers that non insiders generally do not know about?
    I know Photoshop has the ability to edit frame by frame...but I doubt anyone in the industry uses that.

    Not that I have any use...just curious

    For a long time they used Flame. Photoshop's frame-by-frame capabilities are dreadful - everyone has it on their computer but they do not use it as a primary tool four actually working on footage.

    It's been a long time since I've been at a SIGGRAPH or NAB show, but there's aisle after aisle of software being demonstrated that would never get near a home computer. Nuke is one that is current:
