Pad your shoulders, roll up your sleeves and put on your moccasins! No Mullet Required.

This American crime drama television series that ran from 1984 to 1990 was packed with memorable music.

What song immediately brings back fond memories of Miami Vice?

This one always reminds me of the show, in addition to the three above:

Wasn't there a Miami Vice album or something at the time?

I didn't know until recently Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms" appeared on the show.

What a combination to give it that special look and feel!! "Noir", that's s good word for it.

Absolutely, 3 albums. There's even a fandom wiki about the music of Miami Vice.

But this is for those who actually saw the show ;)

I love the Jan Hammer instrumental soundtracks (IIRC, there were two versions). He produced a fantastic soundtrack of music that really captured the essence of the show and era.

Smuggler's Blues by Glenn Frey easily, with Phil Collins In The Air Tonight in second place.

I so have such distinct memories about this show. I was in grad school when it came out - we would go out to happy hour, come back home, watch the show and go back out. For a season of so it was certainly "can't miss TV" for me. I lost interest after a couple of seasons but for a while there I absolutely loved this show.

All of the songs already mentioned really resonate with me. "In the Air Tonight," "Smuggler's Blues" and "Brothers in Arms" especially. I really can't hear any of those songs today, years after the show, without thinking of the particular episode they were in.

I am sure there were shows before Miami Vice in which music was so intertwined into the story line of the episode. I just don't remember it. It as always a bit of anticipation each week to see what music was going to be used.

Anything with bad synths and gated drum machines......

My parents lived in Boca Raton, FLA in the mid-80s. Right close to Miami. I remember staying with them a week or so, and the streets were essentially DESERTED in Miami when the show was on! So weird.

Oh, and I caught Frank Zappa's cameo. Other than that, I never watched it.
I was in a band then, and in those days you could make money and have a residency gig for a few months, Wednesday-Sunday. So I rarely had time to watch TV. A habit I still have, despite no real gigs.....but I digress.....

I think that episode is hard to find now, possibly because of the rights to Biko by Peter Gabriel.

I dont think they listed the songs in the credits? I remember watching an episode and really liking a song but was really annoyed when the credits rolled. I remember the voice sounding like Todd Rundgren so if anyone knows if any of his songs was featured I would be truly grateful!
