Gear buying is a bit of frenzy right now with all that stimulus money out there. I was fairly patient and grabbed a nice pair of Cornwall Decorators recently for 12 and a drive. They need a little work inside. I bet by summer things will level off a bit again. I think I seen some La Scala around for about 2600 recently.
350 recently, original mid century, labels, etc but someone beat me to it. I think @TheIncredibleHoke has given me the console bug though now!
Thank you, they really do shine in this small space! Ha, you know it. I still look at tubes “just in case” I see one I can’t resist! I wonder which one of us will break down first. Harris and I got the CMIII at roughly the same time and both have been tempted!
Well, I probably wasn't expecting to overhaul the vinyl setup, but I have - new modded Thorens TD160 in custom plinth, new Clearaudio basic+ phono stage and even a new (albeit temporary) stylus on the AT-VM95 cartridge body - the cheaper conical 95C being a better pairing with the Clearaudio phono stage than the now gone 95ML. A low ouput MC cartridge will be added later in the year. All change, all change!
Well, my amp stands are here. Now all I need are the amplifiers themselves. Supposedly--going by the five week lead time and the ship date on the bill of sale--the Crimson 350 mono blocks should leave the factory tomorrow. But in this Covid-afflicted world who can say for sure.
Yes. They are the new component stands with Ultra SS footers. Certainly the last amp stands I'll ever need. The little suckers are solid.
You will my good man...i will post pictures and thoughts on Audio Karma...i still dont know how to post pictures on here...
I got an update on the order I placed for a pair of Bob Carver Crimson 350 mono blocks. If all goes well they will ship directly to me from the factory sometime next week. I'm looking forward to experiencing tube-based amplification for the first time in my system.
If anything, it would be a modestly priced streaming component. I still have a squeezebox touch that works great, but cant seem to find a suitable solution for remote navigation. I'd like to surf my amazon/ apple/ or personal flac library/ playlists poolside and coming up empty.
I think I’m done lol. Yamaha AS2200 Rotel CD11 Tribute Technics SL1200G Whoops I might buy Polk LSIm730 lol!!!!
While I haven't purchased any equipment I did have a my Modwright PH 9.0 phono stage upgraged to a 9.0X and my Cambridge Audio CXN 2 streamer is currently at Modwright for their tube modification.
So I bought a Dynavector DV505 tone arm a couple of weeks ago. I have an Ikeda T9 Kawami cartridge set aside for it. But I don't have a turntable to mount it on, and my current ones are not well suited for an arm that heavy. This means I have to buy a turntable in 2021...
I wasn't planning on purchasing any. Seeing that the Yamaha CD S300 is sold out, and probably not coming back, I just unboxed a Tascam CD-200BT. I'll be running it as a traditional cd player, to replace my Technics SL-P118, which I purchased used for $40 in the mid-90s.
I was working at a snobby hi-fi store in downtown Minneapolis and Bill Johnson from Audio Research came in. He had a Linn LP12 with a Dynavector DV505 and a Dynavector cartridge with him. He plugged it into our main system (ARC and Tympani's), looked at me with a grin and said, 'It makes the Denon sound like hammered rat****'. He was a fun guy.
